"I'm this close to becoming a homeowner," Ballard said, holding two fingers slightly apart and smiling broadly as she received a check for $20,286.52 from the Hagerstown Housing Authority. Ballard, 36, has graduated from the Family Self Sufficiency Program administered by the Housing Authority since 1992.

Due to an open house at the Gateway Crossing housing development on Friday, the 1000 block of Lanvale Street will be closed to traffic, beginning at 12:01 a.m. City of Hagerstown officials anticipate the street will be reopened to traffic no later than midnight.

Washington County government offices will be closed Friday, April 22, in observance of Good Friday. County Commuter The Washington County Commuter will operate on its usual schedule. Landfill The Forty West Landfill and all transfer stations, Dargan, Hancock, Kaetzel and Greensburg, will be closed Friday, April 22, in observance of the Good Friday holiday. There will be no recycling services at those locations. All facilities will reopen Saturday, April 23. Courts Washington County Circuit and District Court will be closed Friday.
