The Great Frederick Fair The Frederick Fair opens 5 p.m. Friday and continues through Saturday, Sept. 20, at the Frederick Fairgrounds. Carnival rides, food, motor sports events and country music shows, including Dierks Bentley, left, Jason Aldean, and Kellie Pickler and Lady Antebellum. Autumn Arts Festival About 40 arts and crafts vendors, children's art activities, petting zoo, pony rides, French and Indian War-era encampment, railroad displays and live music.

The Hagerstown Community College Alumni Association will host the U.S. Navy Cruisers as part of its annual Red, White and Blue Concert Series, on Sunday, Aug. 17, at 4 p.m., in HCC's Alumni Amphitheater. The U.S. Navy Cruisers is a seven-member contemporary music ensemble under the leadership of vocalist Senior Chief Musician John L. Fisher. The Cruisers take their name from the Navy's versatile, multi-mission ship, the Cruiser, and perform a variety of music including classic rock, rhythm and blues, oldies from the 1950s and '60s, Motown favorites, as well as today's top 40 hits.

Hager House staff in need of 'friends' The Hager House staff is seeking a wide range of volunteers for its new "friends" program. Volunteer opportunities include gardening, guest service, special event guides and costumed guides for the Autumn Arts Festival, as well as many other opportunities to become involved with the original home of Hagerstown's founder. HAGERSTOWN - Jay Gantz and his girlfriend, Leslie Metz, said they were looking for something positive to do Saturday night. They settled on going to Praise at the Park, a concert at City Park. "We saw a flier and wanted to check it out," said Metz, 35, of Hagerstown. "I like that it's positive. We need more positive things in the area. " "It's something different," added Gantz, 47, also of Hagerstown. "It's a good thing. " Now in its seventh year, Praise at the Park has had a variety of names and has included other bands in the past.
