Members of the Appalachian Golden Classics Chevy Club presented $1,540 to Mainstreet Waynesboro (Pa). The amount was raised during the 2011 Classic Car and Truck Show held June 25 in Waynesboro. A concert featuring the Hagerstown Municipal Band “Big Band,” under the direction of Joel Guyton, will be held Sunday, starting at 7:30 p.m. at Hagerstown City Park's band shell. The musical group will perform a variety of oldies and newer songs with the traditional big band sound. For more information, go to www.hagerstownband.org . A benefit classic car show will be held Saturday, July 30, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., in Byron Memorial Park. There will be dash plaques and 50/50. Classes include classic car, truck, motorcycle, rad rod, street rod, custom, plus best of show, all people's choice. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony is at 2:30 p.m. The event benefits Christmas Lights in the Park and Classic Car Group for Children. Free Stop Smoking for Life program planned The Washington County Health Department will hold a Stop Smoking for Life program in the community room at Town Hall beginning Tuesday, Aug. 2, and running through Aug. 23. Classes will meet from 3 to 4 p.m. Classes are free, but registration is required.

A benefit classic car cruise-in will take place Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. on Conococheague Street in downtown Williamsport. Cars should enter from Salisbury Street. The event includes entertainment by Dogfoot, children's games, balloon animals, 50/50, and a drawing for dinner for two at Bulls & Bears. A donation of $5 per car is requested. The event benefits Kristy Danfelt to help cover cancer treatment expenses. The rain date is Friday, May 13. Grand opening planned for Desert Rose Cafe A grand opening and ribbon-cutting is planned for Desert Rose Cafe & Catering at its new location, 42 N. Conococheague St., on Friday in conjunction with the cruise-in. Owner Rose Harris has more than tripled her café's serving and seating capacity, while maintaining its local charm and revitalizing that corner of Conococheague and Potomac streets.

ROUZERVILLE, Pa. -- Wearing a pink top and argyle skirt, 9-year-old Hannah Lund doesn't look much like the type of person who would be raving about Chevrolet Chevelles and Pontiac GTOs from the 1960s. But the Smithsburg girl's enthusiasm was clear at the eighth annual Rouzerville Lions Club Car and Truck Show on Sunday. In fact, she said she felt a connection to the gleaming vehicles lined up in the Hooverville Elementary School parking lot. "They're kind of 'me,'" Hannah said.
