Making salt dough ornaments and cinnamon ornaments not only brings time to actually sit down beside your kids and talk, but it can also bring a lasting memory. Cascade Elementary School fourth-grader Kiarra Wilson will occasionally get strawberry milk for lunch but said chocolate milk is her favorite. “It's like drinking candy,” she said. “I love chocolate.” Wilson, 10, said that her favorite meal is macaroni and cheese with chocolate milk. She was one of 14 students at Cascade Elementary asked Wednesday about their favorite type of milk to drink. Of those 14 students, eight said chocolate milk was their favorite, three preferred strawberry milk, one each went for vanilla, fat-free and unflavored, and lactose-free and unflavored.

Pastry for a 9-inch pie (two crusts) 3/4 cup sugar 1/3 cup flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon Dash salt 3 cups pared, sliced Cortland apples 3 cups pared, sliced McIntosh apples 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup raisins 2 tablespoons margarine Heat oven to 425 degrees. Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Gently mix with sliced apples. Fold in walnuts and raisins. Put into pastry-lined pan, dot with margarine. Top with crust, seal, and make slits.

photo: Associated Press For those of you who missed the recipe for Spiced Apple Walnut Cheesecake, here it is again: Walnut Crust 4 cups ground walnuts 6 tablespoons sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 cup butter (melted) Apple Cheesecake Batter 1 1/2 cups cream cheese 1/2 cup mascarpone cheese 1/2 cup applesauce 3/4 cup sugar 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon dash ground nutmeg dash ground cloves 3 large eggs 3 large egg yolks White Chocolate Glaze 14 1-ounce squares white chocolate 1 cup heavy cream Cinnamon Glazed Walnut Garnish 1 cup packed brown sugar 1/2 cup sugar 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 3 tablespoons water 1 3/4 cups walnut halves To make the crust, combine walnuts, sugar, cinnamon and butter in a mixing bowl and stir until well blended.

For the syrup: 1 cup sugar 2 cups water 3 tablespoons butter 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon For the dumplings: 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon butter 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup shortening 4 tablespoons cold water 8 Golden Delicious apples Preheat oven to 450 degrees. To make the syrup, mix the sugar, water, butter and cinnamon in a large pot and bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes. For the dumplings, mix together the sugar, cinnamon and butter and set aside.

My latest creation came about when playing with some espresso-ground pumpkin spice coffee. I love the flavor and was interested in trying to coax out more flavors at breakfast, hence the Pumpkin Coffee Cake. I also wanted it to have a bite to it so that it can perk up anyone sampling the moist coffee cake. If you desire you can easily leave out the cayenne, and add in another teaspoon of cinnamon, or nutmeg. However, be careful, nutmeg can overpower the batter if used liberally.

For those who missed Kathy Sayler's quick and easy appetizers and desserts, and because we left out some of the instructions, we are reprinting this recipe: Twilight Tarts 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 stick butter 1/2 cup chopped nuts 1 can biscuits 1 can pie filling whipped topping or cream Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For topping: Combine flour, sugar and cinnamon with pastry blender or fork.

3 eggs 2 cups sugar 2 cups shredded zucchini 1 cup canola oil 2 teaspoons vanilla 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon baking powder 2 teaspoons cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Grease two bread loaf pans. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until foamy. Stir in the sugar, zucchini, oil and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves.
