Bring us your best cookie and you might end up with a sweet reward. The Herald-Mail's 20th annual Cookie Exchange contest will be held Monday, Dec. 5. Tri-State residents are asked to share their best cookie recipes for a chance to win $100. Cookies are judged on taste, appearance, overall quality and originality - meaning original recipes. If submitting recipe that have been previously published, we will only accepted recipes that have been significantly adapted. Contest entries will be accepted from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 5, at The Herald-Mail.

School lunch menus Washington County | Feb. 19-23 Elementary Monday - No school, Presidents' Day Tuesday - No school, professional day Wednesday - stuffed crust dippers with marinara sauce, green beans, cinnamon applesauce, Italian ice and milk. Thursday - chicken nuggets with buttered bread, whipped potatoes and gravy, peaches, cherry turnover and milk. Friday - cheeseburger on bun, potato rounds, dolphin and friends, apple and milk.

Pastry for a 9-inch pie (two crusts) 3/4 cup sugar 1/3 cup flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon Dash salt 3 cups pared, sliced Cortland apples 3 cups pared, sliced McIntosh apples 1/2 cup chopped walnuts 1/2 cup raisins 2 tablespoons margarine Heat oven to 425 degrees. Mix sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt. Gently mix with sliced apples. Fold in walnuts and raisins. Put into pastry-lined pan, dot with margarine. Top with crust, seal, and make slits.

For the syrup: 1 cup sugar 2 cups water 3 tablespoons butter 1/4 teaspoons cinnamon For the dumplings: 1/2 cup sugar 1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon butter 3 cups flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup shortening 4 tablespoons cold water 8 Golden Delicious apples Preheat oven to 450 degrees. To make the syrup, mix the sugar, water, butter and cinnamon in a large pot and bring to a boil. Boil for 3 minutes. For the dumplings, mix together the sugar, cinnamon and butter and set aside.

For those who missed Kathy Sayler's quick and easy appetizers and desserts, and because we left out some of the instructions, we are reprinting this recipe: Twilight Tarts 3/4 cup flour 1/2 cup brown sugar 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1/2 stick butter 1/2 cup chopped nuts 1 can biscuits 1 can pie filling whipped topping or cream Preheat oven to 350 degrees. For topping: Combine flour, sugar and cinnamon with pastry blender or fork.

4 cups fresh or frozen blueberries 1 cup orange juice 2/3 cup sugar (or more, to taste) 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon or allspice 1/8 teaspoon salt 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice 1 pint of half-and-half Garnish of mint sprigs (optional) Dollops of plain yogurt (optional) Stirring often, bring blueberries, juice, sugar, cinnamon or allspice, and salt to a boil over medium-high heat. Remove from heat once it reaches boil and let cool for 15 minutes. Process mixture of lemon juice and the berry mixture in a blender or food processor until smooth, stopping to scrape the sides.

Grease two bread loaf pans. In a large bowl, beat the eggs until foamy. Stir in the sugar, zucchini, oil and vanilla. In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg and ground cloves.
