Shiloh Church to hold funfest Shiloh United Methodist Church, 19731 Shiloh Church Road in Hagerstown, will hold a funfest Saturday, Sept. 14, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be a full breakfast and lunch menu. Local Christian bands will provide entertainment throughout the day. The funfest will also feature an antique car show, including cruise-in; local vendors and craftsmen; churchwide yard sale; silent auction; flea market; horse-drawn wagon rides; children's games and activities, including an inflatable bounce; and children's karate demonstration.

For the ninth year, youths and chaperones from St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Lappans attended a work camp sponsored by Group Cares of Loveland, Colo.  This year, the St. Mark's team traveled to Elmira, N.Y., to repair the homes of low-income, handicapped and elderly residents.  They painted, cleaned up yards, built porches and ramps, and performed other tasks as needed while meeting with the residents and enjoying fellowship in the evenings....

A convicted sex offender was charged this week with exposing himself at a church and a community pool in Hagerstown, according to Washington County District Court records. Marcel Percy Cox, 43, of Olde Route 40, Hancock, was charged on Wednesday with indecent exposure and being a registered sex offender entering a restricted property, court records said. Originally held without bond, Cox's bail was lowered to $150,000 following a bond-review hearing Thursday in district court, the records said.

Tickets are available for the annual Hancock Fire Department Sportsman's Bash to be held Saturday, Sept. 7, at the fire and rescue property off Sensel Road.  Gates open at 11 a.m., and the all-you-can-eat buffet begins at 11:30 a.m.  Tickets cost $25 for ticketholder and guest.  An array of prizes to delight any sportsman will be offered, and numerous cash prizes will also be awarded. Winners will be drawn every five minutes, beginning at noon. There will also be raffles.  Tickets are available at the Hancock Fire Department, 3 Fulton St., or from any fire company member.

Chicken barbecue Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. at the station, 7619 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. One-half chicken costs $7, and a chicken dinner with sides costs $8. Library news A Prehistoric Pizza Party will be held Tuesday at noon at Boonsboro Free Library as the summer reading club wraps up its program.   Book Share is set for Thursday at 6 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a favorite book to share.

Friday evening is the time for the Greater Hancock Church Softball League championship game. In last weekend's playoffs, second-place Warfordsburg (Pa.) Presbyterian Church narrowly defeated Hancock's Church of Latter-Day Saints by a score of 5-4.  Meanwhile, first-place St. Thomas' Episcopal Church beat Orchard Ridge First Church of God, 11-1.  This brings St. Thomas' Episcopal and Warfordsburg Presbyterian together to see who will be the 2013 league champions. The game begins at 6:30 p.m. on the field in Widmeyer Park, and the community is invited to turn out and cheer for their favorite team.  On Sunday at 3 p.m., the league will close the season with a picnic for all seven teams and members of their congregations.

Christ Lutheran Church, at 216 N. Cleveland Ave. in Hagerstown, will hold its annual yard, bake and food sale Friday, Aug. 16, and Saturday, Aug. 17. The event will be held indoors each day, beginning at 8 a.m. An array of yard sale items, along with soup and sandwiches and cold drinks and bake goods will be available.   Parking will be available on the church lot, using the Liberty Street alley next to the restaurant. Patrons will be able to enter the church from the parking lot.  The entrance is handicapped-accessible.   Signs will direct patrons to the indoor areas.   Selected large items will be available in the church shed adjacent to the parking lot. Proceeds will go to benevolent needs in the community.

Christ Reformed UCC, Holy Trinity Lutheran and St. Paul's Episcopal will sponsor a community vacation Bible school in Sharpsburg from Sunday, July 14 through Thursday, July 18, at St. Paul's Episcopal, 209 W. Main St. in Sharpsburg. The theme is “Everywhere Fun Fair - Where God's World Comes Together.” A Fun Fair will kick off the event Sunday at 4:30 p.m. with registration, games and a light supper, followed by regular Bible school until 8:30 p.m. Bible school will be Monday through Thursday from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., beginning with a light supper every evening.

Sharpsburg Bible Church showed its support for the military on Memorial Day. Capt. Fedric Boyle, chaplain with the Maryland National Guard, presented the morning message, reminding the audience that they are in God's army. Music with a military theme was played, along with singing.   The altar area was decorated with two flower arrangements made with Union and Confederate flags, and hats. The church foyer had displays of photos with names and information about 30 members of the church family and their relatives, totaling more than 90 men and women.
