Celebrate the birth of Christ at historic St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Brownsville. The Vicar and the communicants of St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 2150 Boteler Road, Brownville, Md., invite you and your family to join them in celebrating the Nativity of our Lord Jesus Christ. Worship and celebrate the Eurcharist in this antebellum Church that served as the headquarters of Major General Lafeyette McLaws during the Battle of Antietem. Holy Eucharist will be celebrated on Christmas Eve at 7 p.m. and 11 p.m. Special music will be featured.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The United Churches of the Chambersburg Area will sponsor this year's Christmas Eve service at the historic Letterkenny Chapel starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24. The speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Paul Baker. The Revs. George Jones and Ray Kauffman will assist as liturgists. The pianist will be Joan Sachs, and soloist John Brink will present special music. I was posting some Christmas cards around our kitchen window, enjoying the splash of color they added to the room, when one card caught my eye. "May your Christmas be one of silent wonder, abundant blessings and sweet memories. " Silence, wonder, blessings, memories - what fitting descriptions for Christmas Eve. Most of the preparations for tomorrow's festivities are completed. Anything left undone probably will remain that way. We have to be ready for Christmas because when we wake up, it will be here.

Chance Zimmerman, 17 months, is a bit uncertain about being placed in Santa's lap Tuesday by his mom, Beth Zimmerman, at the Martinsburg (W.Va.) Mall. The Zimmermans live in Martinsburg. Santa has regular hours at the mall through Christmas Eve.

The Herald-Mail will publish notices of Christmas Eve/Christmas Day services on Tuesday, Dec. 22. The deadline for those notices is Monday, Dec. 21, at noon. The deadline for the Saturday, Dec. 26, church service notices will be Thursday, Dec. 24, at noon.

With Christmas falling on a Sunday this year, there will have to be some adjustments in the publication of activities at area houses of worship. On Tuesday, Dec. 20, The Morning Herald and The Daily Mail will publish Christmas Eve/Hanukkah and briefs for events occurring before the traditional Christmas Day. The deadline for these notices will be Monday, Dec. 19 at noon. Holiday items already e-mailed, sent by fax or mailed have been kept and need not be resubmitted. On Saturday, Dec. 24, the regular church page and classified advertising Directory of Houses of Worship will be run on schedule.

Pennsylvania State Police are investigating an act of criminal mischief in which an unknown person drove a 4x4 truck on and around two holes' greens at the Greencastle Greens Golf Course in Franklin County, Pa., police said Friday. Anyone with information on the crime - which occurred in the morning of Christmas Eve - is asked to call the police at 1-717-264-5161.

The holidays are upon us again and it's time to begin planning the coverage of your special religious activities. Because Christmas Day falls on a Monday this year, a listing of Christmas Eve services will be published in The Morning Herald and The Daily Mail on Thursday, Dec. 21. The deadline for those items will be Monday, Dec. 18, at noon. The Religion page on Saturday, Dec. 23, will include only services that will be held on Saturday, Dec. 23; Sunday morning, Dec. 24; and Christmas Day. The deadline for those items will be Thursday, Dec. 21, at noon.
