-DEC. 24, 2010 Mr. James "Jim" H. Mackley, 81, of Thurmont, Md., passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Dibert Mackley; his children, Charles M. Mackley and wife, Melissa, of Williamsport, Ruth Broome and husband, Brian, of Greensboro, N.C., and Sara "Sally" Tokar and husband, Andy, of Thurmont; seven grandchildren; his sisters, Helen and Martha Mackley; and brother, James "Buzz" Mackley....

Boy Scouts from Troop 252 and Cub Scouts from Pack 26 worked together with community volunteers to set up and light luminarias Dec. 4 for the 22nd annual Antietam National Battlefield Memorial Illumination. Troop 252 is chartered by the Church of Christ at Hagerstown on Whitehall Road in Hagerstown.

-DEC. 24, 2010 ATHENS, Ga. — Marvin E. Linton, 87, passed away Friday, Dec. 24, 2010, at St. Mary's Hospice House. A native of Martinsburg, W.Va., he was the son of the late Robert E. and Lillian Keyton Linton. Mr. Linton is survived by his wife, Margaret Linton; stepdaughter, Donna Whitmore and husband, Samuel, of Athens; stepdaughter, Nita McCormick and husband, Joseph, of Falling Waters, W.Va.; seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a stepson, Russell Penner; brothers, Wesley and Brooke Linton; sister, Edith Linton; and grandson, Cris Penner.

July 7, 1958 - Dec. 13, 2010 Brian Lee Henson, 52, of Clear Spring, Md., died Monday, Dec. 13, 2010 at his home. He was born July 7, 1958 in Bethesda, Md. He was a member of St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring. He was a 1976 graduate of North Hagerstown High School. He was employed at Certain Teed Corp. of Williamsport, for over 25 years. He was a member of the Stoney Cabin Rod and Gun Club since 1991. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed farming as a second career.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Unlike some football players going to prison these days, Michael Cobb's time Tuesday in Franklin County (Pa.) Jail was an attempt to get others out. Cobb, a first-round draft choice of the Cincinnati Bengals in 1977, addressed Franklin County inmates about their choices and legacies. He asked those gathered how they want to be remembered. "Somebody who shared Christ with others," one man said. "Somebody who helped," another said. "If you can think positive thoughts, you can live positive," Cobb said.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.VA. -- Staying connected to Christ was the message on Christ Night 2010 on Saturday night at the Berkeley Springs High School gymnasium. More than 500 people attended the event, which was sponsored by the Berkeley Springs Fellowship of Christian Athletes. Mary Chalupka came with her husband and mother from Warfordsburg, Pa., to hear the music performed by the Covenant Church Praise Team members from Shepherdstown, W.Va. Organizer Bob Donadieu said Christ Night began in 1999 and was co-founded by Pastor Garrett Kell, a Berkeley Springs High School graduate who now lives in Texas.

AUG. 13, 1949-DEC. 28, 2009 WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Former State Senator Terry L. Punt, 60, of Waynesboro, Pa., died early Monday morning in his home. Death was unexpected and attributed to heart failure. He was born on Aug. 13, 1949, in Waynesboro. He was the son of the late Leo and Betty (Carson) Punt and was raised by his foster parents, the late Raymond and Pearl Sharrah. He was a lifelong resident of Waynesboro. Mr. Punt graduated from Waynesboro Area Senior High School with the class of 1967.
