SMITHSBURG - The congregation of Trinity Lutheran Church will hold a Chocolate Festival Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the church at 16 N. Main St. There will be a chocolate fountain, Valentine crafts for children, a cookie contest, a silent auction and chocolate "mail. " A luncheon menu will be available.

Main St. The event will feature silent auction items, a lunch menu, a chocolate fountain, cookie contest, pie throwing at pastor, chocolate cakes, Valentines crafts for children, and a Willy Wonka movie. Proceeds benefit the Trinity Lutheran Church Youth Work Camp.

SMITHSBURG - The annual Chocolate Festival is Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 15 Main St. The sweet event will include a silent auction, lunch, chocolate fountain, chocolate chip cookie contest, chocolate cake, cakewalks, Valentine crafts for children, a Willy Wonka movie, and some pie throwing at the pastor. Proceeds will go to youth summer activities.

About 200 people turned out for the sixth annual Chocolate Extravaganza. Held Friday, the event featured sweet treats and music. “I think it was a record year. We got lots of positive feedback,” said Margaret Schmelzer, one of the volunteer organizers. Proceeds benefited Main Street Waynesboro Inc. “It was a perfect evening,” said Patrick Fleagle, economic development director for the organization.

marlob@herald-mail.com SMITHSBURG - There was no escaping the clutches of chocolate Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. Everywhere one turned, there it was - chocolate candy, homemade desserts, a chocolate fountain and even a chocolate pastor. It was also in the air - literally - as pie pans filled with chocolate whipped cream were tossed onto Pastor Gerry Johnson, who managed to smile while sporting a protective garbage bag and with whipped cream dripping from his hair.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -- It's not unlike a scene from "Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. " Tables piled high with chocolate truffles, a chocolate fountain, and chocolate cake greet guests to Chocolate Extravaganza each year in Waynesboro. This year's event will be Saturday, April 4, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Elks Club on West Main Street. "We're excited about the band and live music. We're excited about the roomier venue," said Bruce Dreisbach, manager of nonprofit organization Main Street Waynesboro Inc. About 200 people attended last year's Chocolate Extravaganza in the Susquehanna Bank lobby.

Track owners say they plan to build a large buffet at a cost of about $7 million and probably will build another parking garage at a cost of about $25 million. The track, which has nearly 4,500 slot machines, now has a 2,500-space parking garage. The ideal situation is to have a parking space for every slot machine, so track owners are looking to create more parking.

School collecting items for special Jared Box Project Our students are giving from their hearts and you can help us! Our school is holding a project for the month of February. February is "The Heart Month. " We would like to help children. A young boy named Jared was diagnosed with an incurable brainstem tumor at the age of 5. He spent a lot of time in the hospital for treatments. While there, he noticed that a lot of children did not have anything to play. After Jared passed away in November 2000, his classmates wanted to do something to keep his memory alive.
