A Hagerstown man faces a mandatory minimum of 15 years in prison after pleading guilty Wednesday in federal court in Baltimore to sexually abusing a child to produce child pornography. Robert Paul Hade, 43, who formerly lived off Robinwood Drive, had been charged by the Washington County Sheriff's Office with second- and third-degree sex offenses, sexual abuse of a minor, second-degree assault and sexual abuse of a minor as a continuing course of conduct, according to Washington County Circuit Court records.

A Hancock man pleaded guilty in federal court last week to distribution of child pornography while he was on active duty in Kuwait and Iraq, according to a news release on the FBI’s website. Christopher Medovich, 28, of Hancock, pleaded guilty Wednesday in U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia to one count of distribution of child pornography, according to www.fbi.gov . Medovich faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years in prison to a maximum sentence of 20 years and a fine of up to $250,000, authorities said.

Bail was set at $950,000 Friday for a convicted sex offender who faces new charges of possession of child pornography. Brian Keith Netzer, 44, of 100 N. Potomac St., Hagerstown, was being held without bond prior to his bail review hearing before Washington County District Judge Dana Moylan Wright. Fifteen counts of possession of child pornography were filed against him earlier in the week by Maryland State Police. "The state respectfully requests an extremely high bond," Assistant State's Attorney Michele Hansen said.

A woman serving a 16-year state prison sentence on child abuse and child pornography convictions could be sentenced to another 15 years after she pleaded guilty this week in Washington County Circuit Court to more sexual abuse charges involving other victims. Jessica Renee Selby, 38, formerly of Hagerstown, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of sex abuse of a minor as a continuing course of conduct and sex abuse of a minor in exchange for the dismissal of 38 other related child sexual abuse charges, according to court records.

The owner of a downtown business is facing several charges Wednesday after police say they found items related to child pornography during a search of the business. Philip Crawford was charged with sexual abuse of children by photographing, possession of child pornography and corruption of minors, according to a Waynesboro Police Department news release. Crawford, 38, of 23 Penn St., Waynesboro, was being held in the Franklin County Jail Wednesday evening on $25,000 bail, according to a jail spokesman.

About a dozen cases of juveniles sexting — a crime in which a young person can be both victim and perpetrator — have been investigated in Washington County in the past three years. While only a couple of cases of sexting — disseminating nude or pornographic images on cell phones — have resulted in teenagers going through the juvenile justice system, it is a crime that can come back to haunt them years later, said Detective Shane Blankenship of the Hagerstown Police Department.

A former American Red Cross worker facing child pornography charges waived his right to a preliminary hearing Tuesday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court. Samuel K. Bunner, 38, of Martinsburg, is charged with 48 felony counts of knowingly possessing material visually portraying a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Bunner also was separately charged with 87 felony counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, charges that are pending in circuit court. Following Tuesday's action, the Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney's office now can present state's evidence in the case  to a grand jury for possible indictment.

Hagerstown man facing state charges of sexually assaulting a girl will instead be prosecuted on related federal child-pornography charges. The Washington County Sheriff's Office in May charged Robert P. Hade, 42, who formerly lived off Robinwood Drive, with second- and third-degree sex offenses, sex abuse of a minor, second-degree assault, and sex abuse of a minor as a continuing course of conduct. In October, Hade was indicted on an additional count of sex abuse of a minor, as well as on a charge of manufacturing child pornography, according to court documents.

A man who possessed computer images of what Washington County Circuit Judge Daniel P. Dwyer said "can only be described as sexual torture" was sentenced to three years in state prison after pleading guilty Thursday to six counts of possession of child pornography. Frederic Hal Lewis, 58, of 1210 W. Washington St. in Hagerstown, pleaded guilty to the six charges in exchange for four other counts of child pornography being dismissed, along with charges of possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, Assistant State's Attorney Gina Cirincion said.

Prelim postponed for former Red Cross worker accused of possessing child pornography MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A preliminary hearing for a former American Red Cross worker charged with 48 counts of possessing material portraying a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct was postponed Wednesday in Berkeley County Magistrate Court. In addition to the child pornography charges, Samuel K. Bunner, 37, of 223 Brilliant Stone Drive in Martinsburg, is charged with 87 felony counts of fraudulent use of a credit card, according to court records.
