    Editor’s note: This is copy of a statement issued Monday night by the Chambersburg Area School Board: CASD School Board Extends Fair Offer to Teachers January 11, 2011 Talks between the Chambersburg Area School District Board of Directors and the Chambersburg Area Education Association began in December 2009. A four year contract with the Education Association expired on June 30, 2010. After more than a year of negotiations, efforts to resolve the contract have not been successful.

The Chambersburg Area Hospital Auxiliary awarded five scholarships at the group's spring luncheon held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars post. Auxiliary President Karen Marshall presented the scholarship checks to the recipients, who are pursuing careers in the health field. Two $1,750 scholarships, one funded by the Million Penny Drive, were awarded to Chambersburg Area Senior High School seniors Brittany Martin and Mary Bernacker. Vedran Okilj of Greencastle-Antrim High School was awarded a $1,000 scholarship.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The National Weather Service could be investigating Sunday's reported tornado sightings around Letterkenny Army Depot, a weather service spokesman said. A representative of Franklin County (Pa.) Emergency Services said the 911 center received calls about a tornado between noon and 12:30 p.m. Sunday. "We had received reports of a funnel cloud there," said Craig Evanego of the National Weather Service in State College, Pa. No one claimed a tornado had touched down, but wind damage was seen on the ground, he said.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - The beginning of a three-year, $73.8 million renovation and expansion of Chambersburg Area Senior High School is just days away and, while administration officials hope to keep disruptions at a minimum, staff, parents, students and those living around the school will have some adjustments to make. Assistant Principal Kurt Widmann, the building project team leader, and Construction Projects Manager Kevin Weller hosted a community meeting Thursday night in the school's auditorium, but fewer than 20 parents attended.

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. -- The Chambersburg Area School District opened a series of sexting seminars Friday afternoon with a live broadcast to its senior high school students. Sexting, the act of sending or receiving nude or semi-nude photos on electronic devices, became a problem for the school district in September when a sexting ring was uncovered when it nearly caused a fight between high school students. The district has taken a proactive approach to dealing with sexting that is centered on education, said Brett Hill, director of district security.

CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - Construction began last month on two elementary school projects, another school is receiving a major upgrade and Trojan Stadium is nearing completion as the beginning of the new school year approaches for the Chambersburg Area School District. Crews began site work in late July on the new Fayetteville Elementary School, taking down trees and brush in preparation for removing topsoil this week, said Richard Bender, the district's buildings and grounds director.
