Dawn Louise Willard and Steven David Harbaugh were married Sept. 27, 2008, at Mt. Pleasant Church of God in Smithsburg. The bride is the daughter of Jesse Willard of Sabillasville, Md., and Betty and John Pike of Martinsburg, W.Va. She is a 2000 graduate of Catoctin High School and a 2001 graduate of Award Beauty School. She is employed as a hair stylist at Holiday Hair in Hagerstown. The bridegroom is the son of David and Tammy Harbaugh of Thurmont. He is a 1999 graduate of Catoctin High School.

Welsh-Stambaugh Albert L. and Betty L. Stambaugh of Smithsburg wish to announce the engagement of their son, Kenneth Lawrence Stambaugh, to Debora Ann Welsh, daughter of Jeanne L. and Robert E. Welsh Sr. of Thurmont, Md. Ms. Welsh is a 1990 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont. She is employed by First Nationwide Mortgage Corp. in Frederick, Md., as a property tax specialist. Mr. Stambaugh is a 1987 graduate of Catoctin High School. He is employed as a foreman by Brandenburg Electric in Frederick.

Army Reserve Pvt. Justin W. Johnson, son of Keith Johnson Sr., and Vickie L. Stone and stepfather Eric W. Stone of Hagerstown, has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla. Air Force Airman Andrew J. Mummert, son of Frank and Carrie Mummert of Waynesboro, Pa., has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio. Mummert is a 2006 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Brandon R. Warren, son of Scott and Michelle Warren of Charles Town, W.Va.

FREDERICK, Md. - The Community Foundation of Frederick County has announced that 2008 Catoctin High School graduates Sarah Topper and Dusty Kidd are the first recipients of the Brady West Memorial Scholarship. Topper will pursue a nursing degree at Hagerstown Community College, with future plans to work as a licensed nurse practitioner. She said the Brady West Memorial Scholarship gave her the opportunity to continue her educational pursuits. Kidd, who will study physical education at Frederick Community College, said he is honored to be one of the first recipients of the Brady West Memorial Scholarship.

JULY 21, 1953-APRIL 17, 2009 CASCADE, Md. - Donna K. Wolfe, 55, of Water Company Road, Cascade, Md., passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at Washington County Hospital in Hagerstown, Md. Born July 21, 1953, in Waynesboro, Pa., she was the daughter of Calvin G. and Helen V. (Gladhill) Pryor Jr. of Sabillasville, Md. She was a 1971 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Md. She was employed by Church of the Transfiguration in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Waynesboro.

GOLF Williford takes first WALKERSVILLE, Md. - Josh Williford, of Walkersville High School, took first-place honors in the 16-18 division with a 2-over-par 74 to win the Glade Valley Golf Club Junior Golf Championship. Derrick Thompson, of Catoctin High School, was second with a 77 followed by St. John's at Prospect Hall's Mark Hammond with a 78. Patrick McCay, of Walkersville, won the 13-15 division with an 85. Schultz crew misses MIDDLETOWN, Md. - Dirk Schultz's Black Rock Golf Club Buick Scramble team finished second in the Middle Atlantic sectional tournament at Maryland National, failing to qualify for the nationals despite a 16-under-par 56, one shot behind the winning team from Dunkirk, Md., in the gross division.

Frederick educators win honors The Maryland School Counselor Association recently named Catoctin High School counselor Curtis Howser Maryland's high school Counselor of the Year. The group also named Thurmont Middle Principal Barbara Keiling Maryland Counselor Advocate of the Year. With 25 years experience as an educator and school counselor, Howser has a bachelor's degree in industrial arts education from Georgia Southern College and master's in guidance counseling from Western Maryland College.

Mr. Donald Harbaugh, 79 DEC. 5, 2008 SABILLASVILLE, Md. - Mr. Donald Harbaugh, 79, of Sabillasville, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008, at The Village of Laurel Run, nursing facility, Fayettville, Pa. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jane (Green) Harbaugh, in 1996. Mr. Harbaugh's life career was farming in the Sabillasville area. He was mechanically inclined and in his earlier years worked as a mechanic. He was a life member of the Blue Ridge Sportsman Club and volunteered his butchering skills for the Catoctin Future Farmers of America.

MAY 26, 1963-DEC. 28, 2008 CASCADE, Md. - Roger C. Smith, 45, of Cascade, Md., passed away Dec. 28, 2008, at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. Born May 26, 1963, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of Bessie Cosgrove Smith of Sabillasville, Md., and the late Roger H. Smith. He is survived by his wife of six years, Angela Marie (Everett) Smith, whom he married Sept. 22, 2002. He was a 1981 graduate of Catoctin High School in Thurmont, Md. Roger worked in his early years with McDonald's of Thurmont, and Rice Tire of Frederick, Md. He worked for RR Donnelly, formerly known as Moore Business Forms, for 23 years before being stricken with cancer.

Army Spec. Nicholas D. Smith, son of Lindy S. Campbell of Frederick, Md., and father and stepmother, Donald and Amy Smith, of Savage, Md., has returned to the 164th Military Police Company at Fort Richardson, Alaska, after being deployed to an overseas forward operating base in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Smith has been decorated with the Army Commendation Medal, the Iraq Campaign Medal and the Combat Action Badge. Smith is a recent promoted driver and military police member.

THURMONT, MD. - A Marine from Thurmont died in Iraq on Thursday, the Pentagon said - the second Catoctin High School football player killed in combat in 10 weeks. Lance Cpl. James W. Higgins Jr., 22, was one of four Marines killed Thursday in Iraq's Al Anbar province, the U.S. Department of Defense said in a statement released Monday. Details were not given. "James was a very serious, polite, straightforward young man," said Tom Sherald, Catoctin's athletic director. "He had a crew cut his whole time in high school.
