An 18-year-old woman is accused of embezzling more than $1,000 in cash and merchandise from the Bon-Ton store at Martinsburg Mall, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Samantha Bowie, of 107 Autumn Leaf Drive in Martinsburg, was arraigned Friday on one felony count of embezzlement by Magistrate Betty Jo Hersh, according to court documents. Martinsburg Police Patrol officer C.M. Richmond said in a complaint that Bowie provided a written statement admitting she took $600 in cash and $435.12 in merchandise, according to court documents.

A Washington County judge Thursday sentenced a Hagerstown man to five years in prison after he was arrested last summer for possession of more than 100 pounds of marijuana and nearly $300,000 in cash. Sean Clark Andrews, 21, of 1116 Sherman Ave. pleaded guilty in November to possession of a large quantity of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute. Circuit Judge John H. McDowell sentenced Andrews to five years in prison on the large marijuana possession charge and suspended a consecutive, five-year term on the other charge, according to court records.

The 32nd annual Texaco Country Showdown is coming to Hagerstown. WAYZ 104.7 FM will host the country music talent search and radio promotion. About $200,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded nationwide including the Grand Prize of $100,000 cash to the National Winner, presented at the National Final televised special. The contest is open to vocal and instrumental performers as well as groups with no more than seven members. Acts also must not have performed on a record charted in the top 100 country format of Billboard within 18 months preceding local competition.

For a second time this week, the United Petroleum gas station at 890 Pennsylvania Ave. in Hagerstown was the target of an armed robbery Friday evening, city police said. Three male suspects entered the store brandishing guns and demanding money, according to news release from the Hagerstown Police Department. The robbery was reported at 7:11 p.m., a Washington County emergency dispatch supervisor said. The males were last seen fleeing north on the railroad tracks, away from the gas station, the supervisor said.

Money stolen from Pa. business SCOTLAND, Pa. - Money was stolen from a cash register at the Beauty Bar at 3055 Black Gap Road earlier this month, according to a news release from Pennsylvania State Police. State police said “miscellaneous” currency was stolen in the theft that occurred between July 4 and 5. Anyone with information about the theft may call state police at 717-264-5161. Semiautomatic pistol stolen from pickup GREENCASTLE, Pa. - A .32-caliber Davis Industries semiautomatic pistol was stolen from a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck last week while it was parked at the victim's home in the 1100 block of Olive Drive, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

The Berkeley County (W.Va.) Sheriff's Office was investigating an armed robbery Sunday at Dollar Stretcher. A white male wearing black clothing entered the Winchester Avenue store shortly before 4 p.m., displayed a handgun and stole a small amount of cash, a sheriff's office spokesman said Sunday night. The store is near Vixen's Nightclub. The suspect is described as 6 feet 1 inch tall with a slender build. No one was injured in the incident. Armed assailant assaults man, takes his money, medication A man was taken to Meritus Medical Center after he was assaulted and robbed Wednesday evening in the 13000 block of Pine Hill Drive, the Washington County Sheriff's Office said. The alleged victim, Frederick Sheldon Cade III, was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday morning. Deputies said Cade told them that the incident happened shortly before 8:30 p.m., when an armed male approached him and stole money and prescription medication.

Police seized a “brick” of cocaine that had a street value of more than $20,000, plus more than $40,000 in cash at an Inwood, W.Va., home where they arrested three men Friday, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Jose G. Martinez and Clemente Lezama-Luna of 180 Ford Circle, Inwood, and Ofelia Notario-Hernandez of 106 Alessandra Court, Apartment 172, Frederick, Md., were arraigned Saturday by Magistrate Jim Humphrey on single counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and conspiracy, according to court documents.

"This is in response to the caller from Hagerstown who says that conservatives love children and oppose killing them in the womb. I am so tired of our conservatives and Republicans thinking they own the moral compass argument in this country. There are atheists out there with more morals than Republicans. They don't want to pay for any poor people, they think CEOs should make $300 million and not be taxed, and it's OK for single-parent families and kids without parents to fend for themselves.
