BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The officials of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Co. carnival announce this year's musical entertainment lineup for the week of Monday, July 16, through Saturday, July 21. This year's entertainment features recording artists from the region. All performances are free. On Friday, the carnival stage will once again offer area amateur crooners a chance to compete at the firemen's karaoke tent competition. It's open to the first 30 registered that evening.

The Downsville Ruritan Club carnival, which started Monday night, has two days left, according to Pat Shank of the Downsville Ruritan Club Board of Directors. The carnival is being held at Byron Memorial Park in Williamsport. Hocus-Pocus will perform Friday night, Shank said. Kevin Booth, an Elvis impersonator, will perform at 7 p.m. Saturday night, Shank said. Friday and Saturday the carnival will last from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. An armband for all the rides costs $16. Downsville Ruritan Club carnival is more than a decade old, according to Shank.

 It's summertime and that means indulging in the fried, yummy goodness of carnival food. From the traditional candy apples and funnel cakes to the more unusual chocolate-covered frozen bananas, local food lovers can enjoy some guilty indulgences. Larry Moats of Fayetteville, Pa., teased that he went into training for the Waynesboro Fire Department's annual Carnival at the Quincy Ox Roast Grounds last week. Moats ate only half a ham-and-cheese sandwich before going to the fair, so he could save plenty of room for a big splurge at the carnival.

The Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co. carnival will be held June 25 to 30 from 6 to 11 p.m. each evening. The carinval will be at 22 N. Main St. in Smithsburg. The fire company carnival in nearby Berkeley Springs, W.Va., lights up the sky next week, July 3-7, nightly from 6 to 10 p.m. The carnival is the grounds of U.S. Silica on W.Va. 522 just over the Potomac River bridge. There will be food, bingo, rides and entertainment every evening. On the Fourth of July, the Parrott Beach Band performs with the best of Jimmy Buffett-style music. There will also be a baby contest on July 4 at 6 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to take a lawn chair.

SMITHSBURG -- This year's firemen's carnival will be June 28 to July 3, according to Smithsburg Community Volunteer Fire Co. Fire Chief Christopher D. Rohrer. Admission to the carnival is free, but there is a charge for rides. Penn Wood Shows is providing the rides from 6 to 10 p.m. nightly. A ride-all-night pass costs $15. Family night is Thursday night, when a ride-all-night pass costs $12. Entertainment will be at 7 and 10 p.m. nightly. The carnival sponsored by the Downsville Ruritan Club returns to Byron Memorial Park Thursday through Saturday, June 22. The carnival will feature food, bingo and amusement rides. Wednesday is the last day to purchase advanced amusement ride armbands at a cost of $10 each. They can be purchased during regular business hours at Williamsport Town Hall, G.A. Miller Lumber Co., The Cutting Lane in Williamsport and Downsville General Store. Armbands will cost $16 each at the gate. Rained out cruise-in rescheduled for Friday The classic car cruise-in that was canceled last week due to rain is rescheduled for Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. on Conococheague Street.

The Great Boonsboro Ambulance Carnival opens Friday at the Boonsboro Ambulance and Rescue Co. in Shafer Park, off North Main Street in Boonsboro. On Friday and Sunday, attendees can ride all night. On Sunday, the entertainment will be provided by local favorite Skwueeze Play. Anniversary celebrated The 100th birthday of the American Cancer Society will be celebrated Tuesday, starting at 6:30 p.m. at Mount Nebo United Methodist Church, 134 S. Main St. in Boonsboro. The public is welcome to attend the preview of many of the activities that will take place at the Relay for Life in June.
