FREDERICK, Md. -- A Frederick man died after being ejected from a car Monday night on North Franklinville Road just north of Thurmont, Md., according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Aaron Mack, 22, died of his injuries after being flown to R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a press release from the Frederick County Sheriff's Office said. Another occupant of the vehicle, Cody Hahn, 21, of Thurmont, suffered life-threatening injuries, police said. He also was flown to R Adams Cowley and was in critical condition there Tuesday night, a hospital spokeswoman said.

SHARPSBURG -- More than 900 homes in southern Washington County were without power for almost 12 hours on Saturday after a car hit a utility pole on Porterstown Road, according to police and an Allegheny Energy spokesman. The car hit a pole near Geeting Road northeast of Sharpsburg around 1:30 a.m. Saturday, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office. The pole had a heavy regulator attached to it, causing the pole to come down "like a missile," yanking three other utility poles down with it, Allegheny Energy spokesman Doug Colafella said.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- A Berkeley County woman was killed Monday night after wrecking a vehicle on W.Va. 9, just west of the Town of Hedgesville near the community's post office, the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department said. The single-vehicle crash was reported to have happened in the 5700 block of what also is known as Hedgesville Road at 8:40 p.m., Sheriff W. Randy Smith said. The woman was reportedly thrown from the car. Officials were withholding her name Monday night because her family had not been notified.

HUYETTS - A two-vehicle accident Saturday afternoon at the intersection of U.S. 40 and Md. 63 sent four people to Washington County Hospital, Maryland State Police said. The accident occurred at 4:45 p.m. when a Geo Prizm driven by Joseph Lawrence McGinley Jr. of Middletown, Md., attempted to make a left turn onto Md. 63 from U.S. 40 failed to yield to a 1999 Cadillac, which was eastbound on U.S. 40, Trooper 1st Class W.R. Herman Jr. said. The two occupants of the Cadillac, who both are from Pennsylvania, sustained minor injuries mainly caused by the vehicle's air bags and their seat belts, Herman said.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. ? A 78-year-old Leesburg, Va., woman was killed Tuesday morning in a head-on collision with a tractor-trailer south of Berkeley Springs, West Virginia State Police in Berkeley Springs said. Ella Mabel Kendall was pronounced dead at the scene. She was driving north on U.S. 522 in Morgan County, W.Va., in a 2007 Honda Civic when her car crossed the center line into the path of a 2000 Freightliner at about 7:23 a.m., police said in a news release. The vehicles came to rest in a drainage ditch on the western edge of the road, police said.

Members of a local family this week mourned one of their own, killed in a Sept. 26 car accident on Interstate 95 in Georgia while on her way to meet family at a beach house in North Carolina. Virginia Lee McDonnell, 68, a former Hagerstown resident who was living in Sonora, Calif., died at the scene of the accident, her brother, William Spigler of Waynesboro, Pa., said Friday. McDonnell's sister, Janet Racine, formerly of Maugansville, also was in the accident and remains in a coma at a hospital in Savannah, Ga., Spigler said.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. - A Waynesboro man was killed Friday night in a two-car accident near the intersection of Salem Church and Marsh roads, according to the Franklin County Coroner's Office. Donald Bernhisel Jr., 37, of 43 N. Phillips Ave. in Waynesboro, was driving a GMC Sierra pickup truck when an SUV crossed the center line into his lane, Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner said Saturday. Bernhisel's truck caught fire in the accident, which occurred about 10:30 p.m., Conner said. Bernhisel, who was in the truck by himself, was pronounced dead at 11:43 p.m., Conner said.

CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Four people were injured in a two-car crash Thursday night on U.S. 340, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. Two people in a red Hyundai were flown by helicopter to Fairfax (Va.) Inova Hospital following the 9:06 p.m. crash, said Cpl. Vincent Tiong. The woman driving the car was in critical condition, he said, and the male passenger was less seriously injured. The two people in a white Nissan passenger car were admitted to Jefferson Memorial Hospital, he said.
