By MARK KELLER Staff Correspondent Simply saying that Calvert Hall coach Mark Amatucci was unhappy with his team's performance Tuesday night at St. Maria Goretti doesn't begin to describe how he truly felt. Calling the Cardinals' 56-45 Baltimore Catholic League win over the Gaels, "the worst game we've played all year," Amatucci made clear that the performance was far from what he expected to see. "We came out of the Charm City tournament playing well, against teams with national recognition," Amatucci said.

Gaels convert to knock off Calvert Hall By CURT HORNBECKER / Staff Correspondent When Bullwinkle J. Moose attempts to pull a rabbit out of his hat, he always finds something he wasn't expecting. St. Maria Goretti basketball coach Cokey Robertson met with the same fate Friday night, but unlike the cartoon character, Robertson and the No. 4 Gaels pulled out a 52-51 Baltimore Catholic League victory over Calvert Hall. Matt Spierenberg's free throw with 15 seconds remaining broke a 51-51 tie, and somehow two Calvert Hall shots from point-blank range failed to fall as St. Maria escaped with its fourth straight win. It was a minor miracle the Gaels were in a position to win at all. Robertson used just six players all night - the sixth played about 60 seconds - and faced a much quicker team without point guard Derrick Davis, who is out for two weeks on an academic suspension.

St. Maria Goretti boys basketball team couldn't get the offense going on Sunday afternoon. As a result, the Gaels were stuck in neutral as Calvert Hall posted a 56-46 Baltimore Catholic League victory at the Gael Center. "We're not running a very good offense," Goretti coach Cokey Robertson said. "We work hard on defense, but our offense is struggling right now. We got very few transition baskets. We need to get some more wins. We have had a disappointing showing in the Baltimore Catholic League.
