GIRLS SOCCER Wildcats open playoffs with a win WILLIAMSPORT - Leah Mellott had two goals and an assist as seventh-seeded Williamsport beat No. 10-seed Westmar 3-0 in a Maryland Class 1A West first-round match Thursday. Morgan Smith had a goal and an assist, Julie Hancock had an assist and Alexis Bryan posted eight saves to record the shutout for the Wildcats (8-6-1). Williamsport will play at No. 2 seed Beall in the quarterfinals Tuesday. BOYS SOCCER Calvary Christian 3, Grace 2 CRESAPTOWN, Md. - Andy Lytle and Nick Bunting each scored a goal and Pat Salvagno had two assists for Grace in a Mason Dixon Christian Conference Tournament semifinal loss to Calvary Christian.

Monday, May 28,2012 ADULT BASEBALL Former North Hagerstown pitcher Colby Fisher tossed a four-hit shutout on Monday to lead the Hagerstown Braves to a 5-0 victory over the Brunswick Orioles and the championship of the Reno Powell Memorial Day tournament. Fisher went the distance as the Braves opened the season with a 6-0 record. Shepherd University star Nathan Minnich had three hits and three RBIs and North Hagerstown junior Andrew Yacyk had a run-scoring single.

It was a game of peaks and valleys for Broadfording's girls basketball team. After getting off to a great start, the Lions hit a dry spell as Calvary Christian briefly took the lead. After that, Broadfording gradually pulled away to defeat the Calvary 55-44 on Friday in a semifinal game of the Mason Dixon Christian Conference Tournament at Grace Academy. "We were sluggish on the offensive end," Broadfording coach Dana Gonzales said, "but our defense and our foul shooting pulled us through.

PREP ICE HOCKEY The Washington County Northstars went 2-0 on Saturday in the Maryland Divisional State Tournament, routing Gaithersburg 10-0 before defeating Thomas Stone 7-2 in the semifinals. Alex Sweeney had a hat trick to lead the Northstars against Gaithersburg, while Eric Bowers had two goals and three assists and Andrew Lowery added two goals. Mitchell Sirface, Dakota Durning and Keith Koontz also scored, while Sirface, Koontz, Zach Kimmel and Joe Blackwood had two assists each and Andrew Baker and Matthew Stemper each had one assist.
