Saunders Tax & Accounting This year marks Nancy Saunders' 40th year preparing tax returns. A Washington County native and part of the team at Saunders Tax & Accounting in Hagerstown, Saunders prepared her first tax return in 1973, when taxes were done the old-fashioned way - with a pencil, calculator and the U.S. Postal Service. Technological efficiencies, IRS designation as an enrolled agent and a reputation based on honesty, integrity and experience have allowed Saunders to increase her average annual number of returns from about 50 in 1973 to 400 currently.

Perceived issues with the community police department drew a significant percentage of the Borough of Mercersburg's residents to a town council meeting Monday. More than 30 people packed into council chambers, while dozens more waited in the hallway and on the sidewalk outside Borough Hall. Represented were residents and business people from the one-square-mile municipality that about 1,500 people call home. Jeremy Jones, who lives and works in the borough, described what he called “willful and purposeful, aggressive policing,” which he said includes officers waiting outside establishments with liquor licenses to target their customers for potential driving under the influence arrests.
