Hagerstown Police Department Officer Bradley Helman was named officer of the month for August. Helman has been employed with the Hagerstown Police Department for 21 years and is assigned to the Charlie Platoon of the Uniformed Patrol Division. Over the past several months, the Hagerstown YMCA has been experiencing a number of thefts from the men's locker room and from vehicles on the parking lot. Helman recently took a report for the theft of a cellphone and cash.

Washington County Department of Social Services On April 19, the Washington County Department of Social Services held its 24th Employee Recognition Day at its headquarters at 122 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. National Employee Appreciation Day was started in 1995 as a day to honor employees everywhere. In Maryland, Gov. Martin O'Malley issued a proclamation recognizing the value of the Maryland workforce. The day's activities included an awards ceremony, during which employees were recognized for their outstanding performance and contributions.
