Sam Kolodny Robertson Jr., 61, of Greencastle, Pa., and formally of Bridgewater, Va., died Saturday, May 25, 2013, at his home. The family will receive friends at Harold M. Zimmerman and Son Funeral Home, Greencastle, Pa., Saturday, June 1, from 2 to 4 p.m. A memorial service will be Saturday June 8, at 2 p.m. at Axton Baptist Church in Axton, Va. Burial will be private.

The Rev. Timothy S. Kaetzel, formerly of Boonsboro, was ordained into the ministry May 9 at the 52nd annual New Jersey District Council of the Assemblies of God at the Fountain of Life Center in Burlington, N.J. Kaetzel attended Heritage Academy and graduated from Frederick Christian Academy in 1991. He graduated from Evangel University in Springfield, Mo., in 1996 with a degree in evangelism/youth ministries. Kaetzel is serving at Evangel Chapel in Bridgewater as pastor of evangelism.

· COLLEGE SOFTBALL Shepherd 7-6. Glenville St. 1-5 SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Alicia Brandenburg tossed a two-hitter to lead Shepherd University to a victory over Glenville State in the first game of a WVIAC doubleheader. Amy Edmondson smacked a solo homer in the sixth and Amanda Orkoskey followed with a two-run blast for the Rams. Rae Johnson had a two-run double and Mia Zappacosta and Courtni Williams each had an RBI double. Edmondson blasted another homer in the nightcap, a two-run shot in the fifth, to help the Rams complete the twinbill sweep.

COLLEGE BASEBALL SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Charlie Drummond hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth Thursday to lift Shepherd College to a 5-4 win over Saginaw Valley in the opening game of a doubleheader sweep at Fairfax Field. Drummond also homered in the nightcap in the Rams' 9-3 win to complete the sweep. In the first game, Shepherd (4-5) carried a 3-1 lead into the seventh inning, but allowed Saginaw Valley three runs to take the lead. The Rams tied the game in the bottom of the seventh as Josh DeLawder doubled and scored.

Mike Bowers took advantage of some basic training to get ready for basic training. Like all stories, this one has a beginning and an end. For Bowers, the beginning was playing youth and high school sports in Hagerstown. The end? The training and his beliefs that made him a Marine major at the age of 34. It's a career of a lifetime. "Once a Marine, always a Marine," Bowers said. Bowers links his life and times in the Marine Corps directly to his childhood days of learning to play sports.

JAN. 13, 1947-MARCH 1, 2009 WAYNESBORO, Pa. - Stephen R. "Steve" Stitely, 62, of 11534 Old Forge Road, died Sunday, March 1, 2009, at his home. Born Jan. 13, 1947, in Waynesboro, he was the son of the late E. Richard Stitely and Virginia Isabell Greenawalt Stitely Pittman. He was a 1965 graduate of Waynesboro Area Senior High School. He was the first basketball player to hit 1,000 points for the school district and was awarded the Tradition Award from the high school.

Hagerstown Community College recently held its 13th annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony. Former Hagerstown Junior College athletes Allen "Duffy" Samuels, Yvette (Brallier) Clingerman, Tom Strickler and William Updegraff and former athletic academic advisor Marie Nowakowski were honored as 2005 inductees. · Samuels played basketball at HJC from 1992-94. The point guard tallied a record 292 steals and led the Hawks to the NJCAA National Championship Tournament in 1994. He went on to star at Old Dominion University and played professionally in the Ukraine and Spain as well as with the Harlem Globetrotters.

Michaela Brewer, 18, a senior at South Hagerstown High School, was awarded a scholarship to attend Bridgewater (Va.) College. She is the daughter of Dane and Jaclyn Brewer of Hagerstown. Brewer was awarded a McKinney ACE Scholarship worth $21,500. It is an academic scholarship. She was also awarded an additional $2,000 in grant money, Bridgewater officials said in an email. Brewer is president of the Washington County Student Council, president of her class at South High and president of the South High National Honor Society.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Andrew Routzahn of Clear Spring is among 23 Bridgewater College seniors who have been selected for inclusion in the 2012 edition of “Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.” The students are cited for academic achievement, community service and leadership activities. The 2012 edition of “Who's Who” lists students from more than 2,000 colleges and universities throughout the United States and several foreign countries. The directory of outstanding students has been published since 1934.

Two local students, freshmen at Bridgewater College in Virginia, were selected to attend the college's inaugural Flory Fellows Forum. The students, Hannah Garling of Williamsport and Michael J. Hull of Hagerstown, were among the participants invited to attend sessions on Bridgewater College traditions, motivational leadership, conflict resolution, goal setting and team building. Garling is the daughter of Jeff and Teresa Garling of Williamsport. Hull is the son of Steven and Arlene Hull of Hagerstown.

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - Washington County residents Brittany Higgins and Jessica Powers were among 30 Bridgewater College seniors who have been selected for inclusion in the 2008 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Brittany, a 2004 Williamsport High School graduate, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Douglas Higgins of Williamsport. Brittany, who is majoring in communication studies, is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, a national communications honor society.
