MARTINSBURG, W.Va. -- Martinsburg finally had enough of Bridgeport's stubborn attitude. PREP VOLLEYBALL DILLSBURG, Pa. -- Erin Garns had 32 assists, directing the offense as Greencastle-Antrim swept Fleetwood 28-26, 25-20, 25-19 in the PIAA District 3-AA quarterfinals on Wednesday at Northern. Rochelle Christman had nine kills and three blocks, Kelsey Gearhart had nine kills and nine digs, Megan George had seven kills and 10 digs, and Katy Bobbitt added 12 digs for the Blue Devils (19-2), who will play in the semifinals Saturday at 3 p.m. On Monday, The Blue Devils went 8-1 in nine pool-play games.

Haymond C. Landers, 81, of Martinsburg, W.Va., died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2011, at Elmcroft Assisted Living. The family will receive friends Saturday from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at Brown Funeral Home. The service will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Paul Stanley officiating. A graveside service will be held in Bridgeport (W.Va.) Cemetery Monday at 12:30 p.m. with Pastor James Lang officiating.

SHENANDOAH JUNCTION, W.Va. -- Jefferson girls soccer coach Harold Bache is going out a winner on his home field. His next mission is to leave his post with another state championship. Bache's unbeaten Cougars disposed of rival Martinsburg 3-0 Monday night in the Class AAA Region II Section 2 finals, setting up today's game at Bridgeport with a berth in the state tournament on the line. The defending state champions received two goals from Jenny Perry and another from Sarah Cogswell to keep Bache's last season alive.

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. - It's been a long time since Martinsburg entered the Class AAA playoffs on a losing note, but that's the situation the Bulldogs find themselves in tonight. A week after a 29-6 loss to Jefferson, No. 11 Martinsburg (7-3) will play at No. 6 Bridgeport as the Bulldogs start what they hope will be a trek to their first state championship. They've played in the title game four out of the last six years. But in the way are the 9-1 Indians, whose only loss came against undefeated Robert C. Byrd.

The business closed in October, but an auction Saturday of the contents in W.H. Knode’s Sons Southern States farm and hardware store will mark the official end of a five-generation family business. It will have the obvious inventory found in such businesses — fence supplies, tarps, lawn and garden supplies, galvanized pipe and nails, electrical and canning supplies, animal traps, farm hats and gloves, even tractor weights. But this auction will also sell the owners’ personal history.

Records show that nearly 100 percent of those arrested plead guilty or are found guilty of liquor law violations by district judges. And nearly all who appeal the convictions are also found guilty. Courts are usually well-convinced when liquor agents testify they followed a defendant's car from a Maryland liquor store into Pennsylvania where the liquor was confiscated.

Tuesday, March 6, 2012 COLLEGE BASEBALL HCC wins two more games in Florida VERO BEACH, Fla. - Hagerstown Community College won both of its games Tuesday at the Vero Beach Collegiate Challenge, defeating Rochester (Mich.) 12-3 and Penn State-Beaver 6-3 to improve to 8-1 for the season. Against Rochester, pitchers Kevin Bair (1-0), Dylan Ianaro and Dakota Deshong combined on a two-hitter with nine strikeouts, while Danny Morris and Cole Sellers led the Hawks' 12-hit attack.
