H. Leona Miller, age 87, of Malissa Drive, Greencastle, Pa., died at 4 a.m. Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, in the Falling Spring Nursing And Rehabilitation Center Chambersburg, Pa. She had been in declining health since entering the nursing home a month and a half ago. Born Nov. 1, 1924, in Lemasters, Pa., she was the daughter of the late Lloyd C. and Ethel Ellen (Tenley) Bricker. Leona had worked at the former Stanley Co. of Chambersburg for 43 years. She attended Greencastle High School.

Edward “Eddie” Lee Clipp Jr., 45, of Boonsboro, Md., passed suddenly from this life on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at his home. Born Aug. 2, 1967, in Hagerstown, Md., he is the son of Mary Louise (Coulter) Horman and her husband, Jerry, of Germantown, Md., and the late Edward Lee Clipp Sr. His wife, Pam Clipp, preceded him in death. Eddie attended Williamsport schools before his family relocated to Hope, Ark. He was employed as a crane operator for Maryland Metals in Hagerstown.

Anna Louise Higdon Schultz, 82, of Frederick County, Va., died Friday, Sept. 14, 2012, in Winchester, Va. Mrs. Schultz was born in 1930 in Knoxville, Md., the daughter of the late Bruce and Mildred Higdon. She was a homemaker and a lifelong member of the Church of the Brethren, joining Calvary Church of the Brethren in 1957. She was the church organist and a choir member. Mrs. Schultz was a dispatcher with the Winchester Volunteer Rescue Squad in the early 1960s. She was a cancer survivor who volunteered with the Winchester Medical Center for over 25 years through the Reach to Recovery Program, and later in several other departments.

Franklin E. "Ernie" Barnhart, 80, of Clear Spring, Md., died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2012. Born Sept. 18, 1931, in Gaithersburg, Md., he was the son of the late Frank and Zulie Phipps Barnhart. He attended Welty Church of the Brethren in Greensburg, Md. For a short period, Ernie worked in Florida for a commercial contractor. He was a dairy farmer all his life except for a few years when he was into trucking for Frye Coal and Stone Co. and Pinesburg Quarry. He loved to travel and spend time at the river with family and friends, boating and water skiing.

Thelma Nadine (Gouker) Boward, 100, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday afternoon, Aug. 27, 2012, at her home. Born Aug. 19, 1912, in Ellerton, Frederick County, Md., she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Samuel and Laura Odie (Hoover) Gouker. She was the wife of the late Ralph E. Boward, who died in 1987. Thelma lived with her grandparents, Curtis and Annie Gouker, for more than 22 years. She joined Grossnickle Church of the Brethren at age 11 and was baptized in the creek close to the church by the Rev. McKinley Coffman.

Alberta Mae (Higdon) Younkins, 88, of Yarrowsburg, Md., passed from this life Thursday, July 26, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown, Md. Born July 24, 1924, in Yarrowsburg, she was the daughter of the late Bruce Leonard and Mildred Sophia (Spencer) Higdon. Her husband, Fred Harley Younkins, preceded her in death in 2002. In earlier years, Alberta worked as a "Rosie the Riveter" at Fairchild Aircraft, and retired in 1987 from the Washington County Department of Aging.

Mrs. Mabel L. Palmer Basore, 91, of Hagerstown, died Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown. Born July 22, 1920, in Funkstown, she was the daughter of the late Jacob Russel and Nora Mae Gouker Palmer. She was the wife of the late George E. Basore, who preceded her in death in 1989. Mrs. Basore worked for the Department of Social Services for more than 30 years, working with foster care, adoption and child abuse. She co-owned Basore Oil Co. with her husband, where she served as secretary/treasurer.

Peggy Alverta Eyler, 84, of Falling Waters, W.Va., died Friday, July 13, 2012, at her home. Born Jan. 17, 1928, in Hagerstown, Md., she was the daughter of the late Clair Henry and Dorothy Lumn Troupe. She was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren. She was president of the Women's Fellowship, a member of the Mary Martha Circle and very active in many other church activities. She was a volunteer at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, City Hospital for 30 years and Fahrney-Keedy Memorial Home for 40 years as president of the auxiliary; and a key person at Fahrney-Keedy for 12 years.

Gary Eston Fox passed away July 7, 2012, at Coffman Nursing Home. Born Dec. 3, 1932, in Hagerstown, Md., he was the son of the late Eston F. Fox and Ethel Snyder Fox. He was a graduate of Hagerstown High School, Class of 1950, and attended Hagerstown Junior College. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving with theU.S. Army 101st Airborne Division. He was retired from Rustoleum Corp. He was a member of Hagerstown Church of the Brethren and of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42. He is survived by his wife, Frances; daughter, Carol Lent of Williamsport; son, Brian D. Fox and wife, Deb, of Tucson, Ariz.; one sister, Linda White of Hagerstown; one brother, P. Lowell Fox of Hagerstown; two grandchildren, Jonathan Lent and Allison Lent; and three great-grandchildren.
