SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- It wasn't pretty, but the end result will look like a perfectly executed kick through the middle of the goal posts. Junior Eric Dobratz knuckled in a field goal from 32 yards with 2:11 remaining to give Shepherd University the lead and the Rams held on for a 19-16 victory over Fairmont State in the West Virginia Conference on Saturday. Shepherd (3-0) drove from its own 34 on the Fairmont 14 and Dobratz converted the kick on fourth-and-1. The Rams sealed the win when Keon Robinson intercepted Fairmont's Logan Moore at the Fairmont 47 and returned it 31 yards.

Alissa Miller, a junior at North Hagerstown High School, competed in November at the Virginia Horse Shows Association (VHSA) finals in Lexington, Va. Alissa placed sixth out of 60 in the Junior Hunter Pleasure division. Alissa has been riding horses for nine years and she's not stopping anytime soon. Boots, her horse, is a quarter horse-appaloosa and she competes in at least 20 shows a year. But why in Lexington? "Because I knew there would be colleges there so I could get exposure, and if I would want to sell my horse, the price would go up significantly," she said.

CLEAR SPRING -- Williamsport forward Cody Gardenhour had Wildcats coach Chris Downs' advice ringing in his head when he found himself all alone to the left of the goal in the sixth minute of the second overtime Tuesday night against Clear Spring. "I had an opportunity early on from there, I tried to go to the far post, and Coach told me, 'Next time, go to the near post,' and that's what I did," Gardenhour said. Gardenhour's shot from the extreme angle beat Blazers keeper Ryan Cooper, giving Williamsport a 1-0 victory in the Maryland Class 1A West quarterfinals.

View more photos here! HAGERSTOWN -- It looked like a short iron shot with the perfect draw. The only difference was that it came from a foot and not a golf club. From 35 yards, North Hagerstown's Max Psillas drilled a direct kick that drew perfectly over the head of goalkeeper Nick Moxley in the 66th minute to break a scoreless stalemate and fuel the Hubs to a 2-0 victory over Thomas Johnson on Monday night at Mike Callas Stadium. "I saw their keeper on the near post," said Psillas.

CLEAR SPRING -- An exercise program that started out for teachers during the summer break three years ago has not only grown in scope but in popularity. Called "boot camp" by the organizers, the outdoor class is described as a fun and challenging total body workout that can burn up to 600 calories a session. "I have always wanted to help people," said Sheila Kurtz, the instructor of the six-week program, which offers 18 sessions for participants. Kurtz, a certified personal trainer, has a degree from Frostburg State University in exercise and sport science.

WASHINGTON COUNTY -- A cat that was stuck in a tree for nearly eight days is back with its owner, who was away on vacation while her pet was the center of attention. On Monday, Jessica Piper and her boyfriend, Lance Turner, picked up Boots the cat from the Humane Society of Washington County. Piper said Boots, a 10-month-old male, belongs to her 6-year-old daughter, Alyssa, who was thrilled to have him back and considers him a "movie star" based on the publicity he got. Alyssa cut out pictures of Boots that ran in The Herald-Mail as the newspaper covered the cat's plight.
