April 16, 2012
Ronald Eugene Oberholzer, 75, of 8652 Downsville Pike, Williamsport, MD 21795, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2012, in his home after battling an illness for the past year. He was born Sept. 24, 1936, to Preston and Esther (Hoover) Oberholzer in Waynesboro, Pa. He married Clara Mae (Noll) on April 29, 1978, in Leitersburg. He worked his early years at the shoe factory and cold storage before going to Frick Co., where he worked from June 1961 to June 2002. He is survived by his children, Babbette Oberholzer Canales of Livingston, Texas, Corey Bingaman of Waynesboro, Scott Noll of Dallas, Pa., Kelly (Noll)

One Mountain Foundation has established a scholarship program for students in the Cascade and Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., areas and the surrounding communities. This year, the goal is to award four $1,000 scholarships, one each to a senior from Smithsburg, Catoctin, Waynesboro and Fairfield high schools. The applicant's area of study or planned school program must result in a degree or in a professional certification. Completed applications must be postmarked no later than April 1 and received no later than April 10. Applications, criteria and procedures can be found at www.onemountainfoundation.org . Proceeds from foundation events and donations from the public and foundation members and sponsors provide the funding for the scholarships.

Mr. J. Ted Benchoff, 54, of 14942 Buchanan Trail East, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Monday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.

David Pierre Joseph Broussard, 46, of Fairfield, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at his home.  Born May 14, 1965, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Anne McCarty Broussard.  He was head cook at Hill Country Farm in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and formerly was co-owner/operator of A Lily Pad Flowers and Gifts shop in Smithsburg, Md., and Blue Ridge Summit. David enjoyed his dogs, cooking and spending time with friends. Surviving are sisters, Marie T. Broussard and her husband, Thomas Jacobson, of Silver Spring, Md., and Clare J.M. Broussard and her husband, J.T. Devine, of Forestville, Calif.; and brothers, Joseph C. Broussard and wife, Amy, of Newark, Del., and Paul J. Broussard of Cascade, Md. A memorial reception will be held at Hill Country Farm, 519 Gladhill Road, Fairfield, PA 17320, Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 2 p.m.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741.  Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home in Emmitsburg, Md. Jean Irene McCleaf Benchoff, 84, of The Village of Laurel Run in Fayetteville, Pa., and formerly of 15348 Summit Farm Drive in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at the nursing home. The family will receive friends Monday from 1 to 2 p.m. at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro, Pa. The service will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Fountaindale Union Cemetery.

A Franklin County, Pa., magisterial district judge ruled Wednesday that all charges should stand against a Waynesboro man accused of killing two people, including his fiancée, in a Feb. 12 crash. Shawn Tyler Lacasse, 26, of 861 Anthony Ave., was charged Sept. 28 with two counts of homicide by vehicle, and one count each of racing on highways and speeding in a crash that killed two people - one of whom was his 25-year-old fiancée. Magisterial District Judge Larry Pentz decided all criminal charges should remain in place and scheduled mandatory arraignment for Jan. 25 in the Franklin County Court of Common Pleas.

John Denning Vogel, 65, of Norwood Avenue, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Tuesday, Sept. 27, 2011, at his home. He was born July 23, 1946, in Harrisburg, Pa., the son of the late Harry Denning Jr. and Helen Beasom Vogel. John is survived by his wife, Katherine "Kate" Maloney Vogel. Mr. Vogel was a graduate of Susquenita High School and Elizabethtown College. For many years he served in the U.S. Army Reserve. John also served for a time as a page in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
