Anne Drabish Conrad, 94, of Emmitsburg, Md., died Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at St. Catherine Nursing Center in Emmitsburg. The family will receive friends Sunday, Aug. 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. at St. Rita Parish, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated Sunday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. at the church. Arrangements are by Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, Emmitsburg.

Mr. J. Ted Benchoff, 54, of 14942 Buchanan Trail East, Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., died Wednesday, March 7, 2012, in Waynesboro (Pa.) Hospital. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the services Monday at Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro. The service will be Monday at 11 a.m. in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Harbaugh Church Cemetery, Rouzerville, Pa.

The mountaintop community of Blue Ridge Summit recently received donated playground equipment to spruce up its park off Charmian Road. Blue Ridge Summit resident Joy Ammerman and her family were considering how to honor her husband's memory when a relative's comment gave her pause. “My daughter-in-law said, 'Where's the playground?'” Ammerman said. Ammerman drove to Lions Club Park and discovered old, metal playground equipment she said was in poor condition. She contacted the Blue Ridge Summit Lions Club about making a donation to replace it in memory of her husband, Bruce.

firstname.lastname@example.org BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. - It may not be the "Thrilla in Manila," the touted fight between Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier some 30 years ago, but professional wrestling fans can see two aging grapplers take on the youngsters Saturday at the Blue Ridge Fire and Rescue Hall. Wrestling fans in the Armed Forces in Iraq also can see the matches, dubbed "War on the Mountain," on VCR tapes that Mike Pryor, owner of Mountain Shadows Restaurant in Blue Ridge Summit, will tape and send overseas at the request of relatives and friends of the GIs. As of Thursday, Pryor said he has had requests to send tapes to sons, husbands, nephews and friends fighting in Iraq from a dozen area residents from Hagerstown, Smithsburg, Clear Spring, Hancock, Frederick, Md., Chambersburg, Pa., and Waynesboro, Pa. Mrs. Catherine C. “Katie” (Kane) O’Kelly, 91, of 13580 Summit Ave., Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., passed away at 11:54 a.m. Monday, June 6, 2011, in the emergency room of Waynesboro Hospital. Born April 17, 1920, in Baltimore, Md., she was the daughter of the late James J. and Catherine (McCabe) Kane. She lived in Baltimore before moving to Blue Ridge Summit when she was 4 months old, where she was raised by John and Ida Gearhart. Mrs. O’Kelly attended Monterey School in early years, later graduating from Shippensburg High School with the class of 1939.

David Pierre Joseph Broussard, 46, of Fairfield, Pa., died Thursday, Feb. 16, 2012, at his home. Born May 14, 1965, in Gettysburg, Pa., he was the son of the late Joseph D. and Anne McCarty Broussard. He was head cook at Hill Country Farm in Blue Ridge Summit, Pa., and formerly was co-owner/operator of A Lily Pad Flowers and Gifts shop in Smithsburg, Md., and Blue Ridge Summit. David enjoyed his dogs, cooking and spending time with friends. Surviving are sisters, Marie T. Broussard and her husband, Thomas Jacobson, of Silver Spring, Md., and Clare J.M. Broussard and her husband, J.T. Devine, of Forestville, Calif.; and brothers, Joseph C. Broussard and wife, Amy, of Newark, Del., and Paul J. Broussard of Cascade, Md. A memorial reception will be held at Hill Country Farm, 519 Gladhill Road, Fairfield, PA 17320, Saturday, Feb. 25, beginning at 2 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society, 5001 Angel Canyon Road, Kanab, UT 84741. University Press of America President Jed Lyons said the company started contacting displaced McGraw-Hill employees Tuesday for possible employment. The company also will advertise job openings in local newspapers, he said.
