If you've ever had a conversation with me, you'd learn quickly I am a fact freak. I've got a head full of little annoying facts that would probably only be good for an appearance on "Jeopardy. " So today, I'm going to share with you some of the completely random fitness facts that float around in my brain on a regular basis, so in turn you can relay them to your friends at completely random times. It will make you sound brilliant, and you might actually get to meet my favorite Canadian, Alex Trebek.

One of the most aggressive Web-domain registrars and hosting services is expanding into blogging. GoDaddy.com is offering Quick Blog, free with a domain registration, or $2.95 a month as a service. It includes hosting, custom templates, RSS feeds, image and audio uploads and 15 gigabytes of bandwidth monthly. A spokesman for GoDaddy said the application was developed by the company. GoDaddy has "moved into competition with Blogger, SixApart and Wordpress.com," according to BlogHerald.

A list on a news and opinion website that ranked Hagerstown among the 15 worst cities to have a baby is rankling local leaders, who called the survey flawed and meaningless. They aren't alone. Sean Mussenden, a lecturer at the University of Maryland at College Park who is an expert on digital journalism, said such surveys are “Facebook bait.” The Daily Beast featured the list titled “The 15 worst cities to have a baby, from New York to Miami,” with Hagerstown ranked fourth on the list.

Carrington Jones of Hagerstown, a student at Juniata College, will attend the  2012 Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla., at the Tampa Bay Times Forum. One of the college's professors creates an entire course focused on the political conventions. The students attend the conventions, blog, work at internships at the conventions and attend seminars before the conventions. At the convention, delegates of the Republican Party will choose the party's nominees for president and vice president.

Imagine a thread connecting you to everyone you know. Some of the threads are thicker than rope while others are frayed or broken. We make and break connections every day. We have connections that will be stretched, but cannot be broken. And we have the most fragile of connections that we must constantly tend in order to maintain. I started thinking about connections a few weeks ago when someone came up to me at a business expo just to say hello. Garnet Stevens and I are connected by a blog.

A Martinsburg, W.Va., soldier wounded Monday in a rocket attack in Afghanistan is expected to make a full recovery, but the family of U.S. Army Spc. Uriah Horst said it is still awaiting word on when he will return to the United States. Horst, 21, has been flown from Afghanistan to Germany and could be flown out this weekend, his mother, Kimberly Horst, said Friday afternoon. The family has not been told when the flight will take place and what medical facility he will go to recuperate, she said.

With today being Veterans Day, I want to take this opportunity to announce several features at The Herald-Mail that focus on veterans.  “Through a Veteran's Eye” is a relatively new television show on HMTV6.  Fred Shinbur (Maryland's Veteran of the Year for 2011 and the current chairman of the Maryland Veterans Commission) and I are the hosts. The purpose of this show is to inform veterans about benefits and services available in our area. The show airs Tuesdays at 8 a.m., noon and 4 p.m. on Antietam Cable channel 6, and on a random basis throughout the weekend.

The second annual Western Maryland Goat Field Day and Sale will be Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Washington County Agricultural Education Center near Boonsboro and adjacent to the University of Maryland's Western Maryland Research and Education Center. Meat goat bucks from the Western Maryland pasture-based meat goat performance test that meet minimum standards for growth, parasite resistance, parasite resilience and reproductive and structural soundness will be offered for sale by public auction.
