Jessica Martin had eight digs, Joan Leavy had five aces and six kills, Lyndsay Himes had nine kills and two blocks and Elizabeth Teeter had nine kills for the Panthers (7-6). JV: Hancock, 2-0. Friday, October 14, 2011 PREP FOOTBALL HANCOCK - Jesse Wolford got his first start at tailback, replacing the injured Tyler Cheng, and he finished with 12 carries for 145 yards and three touchdowns to lead Hancock in a 36-0 shutout of Hundred on Friday. Wolford scored on runs of 34, 17 and 39 yard, Garrett Wiles passed for 70 yards, including a touchdown to Hunter McKinley, and Harrison Layman had a fumble recovery TD for the Panthers (3-4). Thursday, September 22, 2011 BOYS SOCCER WILLIAMSPORT - Tiago DeSouza had a goal and an assist for Williamsport in a 2-0 MVAL Antietam win over previously unbeaten North Hagerstown (6-1, 1-1) on Thursday. Colton Myers had a goal, Cody Gardenhour had an assist and Alex Aleshire had five saves in the shutout for the Wildcats (6-1, 2-0), who avenged their lone loss of the season after falling to the Hubs in the Washington County Tournament final last Saturday.

September 19, 2011 GOLF CHESTERFIELD, Va. - Beaver Creek Country Club pro Dirk Schultz refreshed his winning edge on Monday. Schultz captured the title in the Middle Atlantic PGA's Head Pro Championship with a 3-under-par 69 at Lake Chesdin Golf Club thanks to a late charge on the back nine. Schultz went 36-33 on his card, starting on No. 18 in the shotgun format. He was 2 over after the fifth hole, and after two birdies and another bogey he found himself at 1 over through No. 12 before catching fire.

My mom used to tell me that I had a face that could stop traffic. She was being nice. I thought it was because I was good looking, but when I was a kid, a motorist got a look at me and started a pileup on Dual Highway. Things have changed over the years. First, I don't go around the Dual much anymore. But now, I'm in demand. After all these years as one of the top prognosticators, I've been asked to make cameo appearances on some of the new fall television schedule. I can strike the pose as well as anyone else.

Tuesday, September 13, 2011 GIRLS SOCCER BOONSBORO - Abby Duncan recorded a hat trick as Boonsboro picked up its first win of the season Tuesday with a 5-0 shutout of Walkersville. Leah Cadigan scored twice for Boonsboro (1-2) while Rachael Holmes, Jordy Bingaman, Kortney Cunningham, Amber Smith and Ella Hawkins each had an assist. Bree Springer made three saves for Boonsboro, which outshot Walkersville, 19-2. JV: Boonsboro, 2-0. BOYS SOCCER Goretti 6, Bishop Walsh 4 CUMBERLAND, Md. - Rodrigo Reyna, Kevin Proctor and Thomas Blake had two goals each for St. Maria Goretti in a win over Bishop Walsh.

Bishop Walsh used a spread attack Monday night, scoring six touchdowns in a 40-7 romp over Hancock. Senior quarterback Greg Hendershot tossed three touchdowns - including scores of 46 and 52 yards - and threw for 265 yards against the Panthers (0-2). The Spartans took a 22-7 lead into halftime, as the first half was ghastly for Hancock. The Panthers turned the ball over twice and were caught napping during an ensuing kickoff that the Spartans recovered. The bright spot for Hancock in the first half was Garrett Wiles' 10-yard TD pass to Nate Souders in the second quarter.

Five high school football games involving Washington County teams were postponed Friday night due to heavy rains throughout the week. One game - South Hagerstown at Francis Scott Key - is still scheduled to be played Friday at 7 p.m. Two games will be played Saturday at McDaniel College in Westminster, Md. Boonsboro will play Manchester Valley at 6 p.m., followed by Smithsburg and North Carroll at 8:30. Friday's game between North Hagerstown and Frederick - originally scheduled at Frederick - will be played at North at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Saturday, May 14, 2011 PREP BASEBALL St. Maria Goretti beat Broadfording Christian 8-0 and Bishop Walsh 17-1 on Saturday to stay alive in the Maryland Private Schools B Tournament. In the shutout of Broadfording, Adam Blenckstone had four hits and two RBIs, Ryan Kinter had three hits, Kevin Proctor and Nick Buckner had two hits each and Jake Moats pitched a two-hitter with six strikeouts. In the five-inning rout over Bishop Walsh, Ian Moss pitched a two-hitter with five strikeouts and also added two hits and three RBIs.
