After several reschedulings, both games are now set for today. The HCC men host Baltimore at 2 p.m., followed by the Hawks vs. Howard in women's action at 4. Bishop Walsh quarterback Terrell McGraw threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Billy Conroy with 1 minute, 3 seconds remaining in the game to give Bishop Walsh a 32-28 victory over Saint James on Saturday afternoon. Trailing 28-26, McGraw hit Conroy on a sideline pattern and the senior running back did the rest. “We ran that play twice today,” Bishop Walsh coach Geno Taylor said. “Our receiver was wide open. So I waited until the end when we really needed it. We have a good quarterback that throws the ball well and a good receiver.

St. Maria Goretti's boys basketball team looked much different on Saturday than the Gaels from a day before in an opening-round loss to Bishop Walsh in the 30th annual Mid-Atlantic Invitational Tournament. In fact, Goretti probably looked like the Gaels teams of the mid-1980s when Rodney Monroe played, as they rolled to a 75-42 victory over the SouthLake Christian Academy (N.C.) squad now coached by the former Goretti star. In the late game, Bishop Walsh became a first-time MAIT champion with a 58-51 victory over St. Mary's Ryken.

koelble@herald-mail.com As gloomy as the weather was on Thursday afternoon, Bishop Walsh boarded its bus back to Allegany County with cloudier heads. St. James obliterated Bishop Walsh 35-0 for its fifth straight win in the Saints' home finale, erasing with it the memories of last year's stinging 46-42 loss to the Spartans, in which Bishop Walsh quarterback Chris Hendershot threw for 472 yards - at the time a Maryland single-game record. However, Thursday was a complete turnaround for St. James, which mixed up its defensive calls, frustrating Hendershot and causing the Spartans to look totally out of whack.

BERKELEY SPRINGS, W.Va. - The Berkeley Springs Indians weren't going to let a six-point deficit bother them Friday night. In fact, they seemed more than content to let Bishop Walsh worry with their six-point lead all by themselves. The Spartans were unable to take advantage of several scoring opportunities in the first quarter, allowing the Indians calm their first-game jitters, reel off 45 unanswered points and cruise to a 45-6 win in the season opener for both teams. "I thought that Bishop Walsh started off well," Berkeley Springs coach Angelo Luvara said.
