A baskets, pottery and cash bingo will be held Sunday, Nov. 18, at the Elks Lodge on Robinwood Drive. Tickets cost $25 in advance and $30 at the door. Lunch is included in the ticket price. Doors open at 11 a.m., lunch will be served at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. There will be eight basket prizes, seven pottery prizes and 15 cash prizes. There will also be raffles, tip jars, King Tuts, and 50/50. The community is invited. Participants must be 18 years of age. Baked goods and sodas will be available for purchase. For tickets, call Kim Wesmiller at 301-432-6933. The event is sponsored by Tri-State Raven's Nest 12 and proceeds benefit the scholarship fund.

The leaves are turning as quickly as the pages on the calendar. Funks-town is bustling with activities and squeezing in a few before October. Barbecue season is not quite over yet. The volunteers at Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. are firing up the grill to usher out September with pit beef, Italian sausage and barbecue chicken. Baked goods will also be for sale. The barbecue will be Saturday, starting in the morning. Bingo planned at fire station On Sunday, Emma K. Doub Elementary and other community projects will benefit from a Longaberger basket bingo at Funkstown Volunteer Fire Co. The doors open at 1 p.m. and bingo starts at 2 p.m. There will be food available and 25 games are on the menu as well. For tickets, call Mike Line at 301-667-1212.

Hello dear friends, and welcome fall. I simply adore the chill in the mornings, and the ability to open the windows and let the outside in. School is now a routine and Friday nights are for high school football. Here are a few other things happening in our area: Basket bingo to be held The Funkstown Lions Club will hold a basket bingo Sunday, Sept. 30, at 2 p.m. at the Funkstown fire hall. The Hancock Volunteer Fire Company is hosting a benefit bingo at its fire hall on Fulton Street Sunday afternoon, Aug. 5, beginning at 2 p.m. Featured prizes are Coach and Vera Bradley handbags. Tickets are $25, and those reserved in advance will be entered in a special drawing. Bring a nonperishable food item for the local food pantry, and you will receive an extra pack of specials. Doors open at noon for lunch and advance seating. Support our firefighters in this important fundraiser.
