The local nonprofit group MiHi held a holiday basket bingo extravaganza Sunday at the Elks Club to raise money to maintain its Project Lifesaver program and honor a commitment to help pay for a new handicap-accessible playground at Marshall Street School in Hagerstown, according to an email from the organization's ambassador-at-large, Mary Besecker. Also known as Many Individuals Helping Individuals, the group is celebrating its 25th anniversary, according to a letter promoting the event.

The Shirley B. Robison Fund will host a basket bingo event Sunday at the Williamsport Fire Hall, offering 25 games of bingo along with raffles. Tickets cost $25 per person or $40 for two. Funkstown American Legion Post 211 has awarded a $1,000 scholarship to Sharpsburg resident Paige Marshall, a 2012 graduate of Boonsboro High School and a freshman engineering major at Penn State University. Paige will receive an additional $1,000 per year if she maintains a 3.0 grade point average. Paige is the daughter of Kim Marshall and the granddaughter of Joe and MaryAnn Eichelberger and Terry and Janet Marshall. Paige is the great-granddaughter of Amelia “Pansy” Davis of Sharpsburg.

Happy birthday, Joe Joe Scott is back in the news. Friends and neighbors want to give Joe a big birthday wave as he turns 98 years old today. 'Haunted History and Paranormal Tours' begin The Town of Williamsport will host the first of the “2012 Haunted History and Paranormal Tours” tonight at 7 p.m., beginning at Town Hall. Numerous investigations performed this year will provide scary and unbelievable activity in town. Additional tours are scheduled for Fridays, Oct. 19 and 26; Mondays, Oct. 22 and 29; and Wednesdays, Oct. 24 and 31. Tours will meet in front of Town Hall at 7 p.m. Reservations are not necessary, but recommended, especially for groups.

Church plans basket bingo Christ Reformed United Church of Christ at 22514 Cavetown Church Road in Cavetown, will hold a basket bingo titled Thiry-One Bag Bingo. The bags will be filled with theme items. The event will be Saturday at the church. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the first game will be played at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $20 per person, which includes 20 regular games, three special games and door prizes.
