A Thirty-One Bag bingo will be held Saturday at Christ Reformed United Church of Christ in Cavetown. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the first game is at 5:30. Conococheague Elementary School will host dinner and bingo to benefit Gavin Everitts on Sunday at the Clear Spring American Legion.  Lunch will be served at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m.  Tickets cost $25. Tickets can be purchased at the school from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. or at the Clear Spring Legion. Chicken barbecue District 15 Civic Organization will hold a chicken barbecue Saturday, starting at 11 a.m. at the Big Pool Community Building.   The dinner includes chicken, baked beans, applesauce, roll, butter, dessert and drink.

Pythian Sisters of Maryland, Potomac Temple 28, will host its annual Longaberger Basket bingo Sunday, April 22, at Funkstown Fire Hall. Doors will open at 1 p.m., and lunch can be purchased on site at the Fireside Grill. Tickets cost $20, which includes 20 regular games and five specials. All baskets will be filled. A dessert table will be available, along with tip jars, raffles and door prizes. Tickets can also be purchased at the door. Proceeds will benefit the Fisher House, a nonprofit facility in Rockville, Md., which houses families of injured returning veterans.

The Maugansville Volunteer Fire Department holds bingo every Thursday at the firehall, which is at 13730 Maugansville Road. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., early birds start 6:30 p.m. and regular games begin at 7 p.m. Junior packages cost $23 and include 15 regular games, a pack of special games, one pack of quickies, two wild card double bingos, two you pick 'ems and two bonanzas. Senior packages cost $28 and contain an extra pack of special games. There will be tip jars and food for purchase from the kitchen.

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church will hold a Vera Bradley/31 bingo event Sunday, April 21, at the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Co.'s Special Events Building.  The doors open at 11 a.m., the meal will be served at noon and bingo starts at 1 p.m. Tickets cost $25 per person and include 20 regular games and three special games. Homemakers to meet Clear Spring Homemakers will meet Tuesday, April 2, at 11 a.m. at Windy Hill Restaurant.

With markers at the ready, about 200 people had heads bent, eyeballing grids of bingo cards, often six, sometimes 18 cards per person. During games, the room was remarkably quiet Sunday afternoon, except for letter-number combos being called out and the occasional “bingo.” The fundraiser, held at Elks Lodge 378 east of Hagerstown for the benefit of the Easter Seals’ Adult Day Services, was sold out, Easter Seals Interim Director Deb Lauricella said. The nonprofit started holding an annual fundraiser in 2009 to supplement funding from Medicaid, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, private pay, grants and donations, Lauricella said.

The Kiwanis Club of Hagerstown will host a cash bingo Saturday, Sept. 17, at the Knights of Columbus, 20340 Leitersburg Pike in Hagerstown. Doors open at 5 p.m. Bingo begins at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $20 in advance, or $25 at the door. Tickets include 20 games of bingo. Games include cash King Tut, one mad-money jar, tip jars, raffles, door prizes, 50-50 and numerous specials.  Food will be available for purchase. A cash bar also will be available. Hancock Rescue Squad will hold a Vera Bradley and Designer basket bingo Sunday at the Hancock Fire Hall, 3 Fulton St. Doors open for lunch at noon with games beginning at 2 p.m.  Tickets cost $25 per person and will be available at the door. Tickets bought in advance will be entered into a drawing for a special bag.  For an extra set of games, bring a nonperishable food item to donate the Interfaith Service Coalition Food Pantry.  The Rescue Squad needs several special pieces of equipment to replace outdated or obsolete models, including an automatic compression machine that aids them in cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

Mount Zion Lutheran Church, at 20214 N. Locust Grove Road, invites the community to join a sewing group that meets one day and one evening a month. The next sessions will be Tuesday from 9 a.m. to noon and 6:15 to 8:15 p.m. No sewing skills are necessary. A life sentence is hardly a punishment for certain crimes. It is unconscionable that cop killers, murderers, child molesters who murder their victims, and other monsters are given a cot, three 'hots,' and free medical care for life, at taxpayer expense.
