shappell@herald-mail.com Two West Virginia men, hospitalized following a crash on Interstate 81 Sunday morning, were arraigned on drug charges at Washington County Hospital, Maryland State Police said. Police allege the men had more than 200 grams of heroin with the intention of selling it in the area at the time of the wreck. Michael Gerald Greer, 46, of Beckley, W.Va., and Steven Dewayne Fitzwater, 24, of Crab Orchard, W.Va., were arraigned at the hospital late Sunday evening by a Washington County District Court Commissioner, police said.

julieg@herald-mail.com A man Hagerstown Police wanted in connection with a June shooting at Noland Village has agreed to waive extradition from New York to Maryland, Hagerstown Police Lt. Rick Johnson said he learned Thursday. Johnson said arrangements still had to be made to transfer Tariq Dane Small, also known as Richard D. Small and R Dot, from the New York Police Department in Brooklyn to Hagerstown. Hagerstown City Police have three arrest warrants for Small, 18, whose last known local address was 124 S. Prospect St., police said.

Businesses vandalized on Wayne Avenue CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Chambersburg Police were investigating two incidents of criminal mischief at Wayne Avenue businesses last weekend. Between 5 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Monday, someone shot a hole through the front window of Route 5 Gifts at 380 Wayne Ave., with a BB gun or slingshot, police said. During the same time period, someone propelled a small object through the front door of Bob's Bicycle Shop at 603 Wayne Ave., damaging the plate glass on the door, police said.

Court briefs Court no-show gets seven-day sentence CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A Chambersburg man who failed to show up for a court appearance in January was ordered to serve a seven-day sentence Wednesday. Shawn M. Ott, 20, of 261 Birch St., was picked up May 3 on a bench warrant issued by Franklin County Court of Common Pleas Judge John Walker in January. The warrant was issued after Ott did not appear for sentencing on charges of harassment, criminal mischief, failure to obtain a permit for fishing and fishing without a license.

Abuse chief again detoxed By MARLO BARNHART / Staff Writer Nine days after a July court appearance for violation of probation, the director of Washington County's nationally acclaimed Jail Substance Abuse Program was readmitted to a hospital detox unit, according to a report filed by his probation agent. Charles Ray Messmer was picked up Wednesday by Hagerstown City Police on a bench warrant. He posted a $1,000 bond and was released, according to records in Washington County District Court.

HAGERSTOWN ? A bench warrant has been issued for the driver of a vehicle involved in a June 9 car crash that killed a pregnant Funkstown woman. Kelsy Lynn Thomas, 20, was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore after the crash and was pronounced dead a few days later. Thomas was four months pregnant at the time of her death, and the baby did not survive. A jury indicted Javaughn Allen Young, 21, on a charge of negligent homicide in connection with the crash.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - A routine check of license plates outside a motel off Interstate 75 in Troy, Ohio, resulted in the arrest Thursday morning of Todd A. Dorsett, the Waynesboro, Pa., lawyer who has been missing for a month. "This morning, at about 3:44 a.m., one of our officers was checking license plates in the Motel 6 parking lot," Capt. James Fox of the Troy Police Department said Thursday. He said the plate numbers were run on the National Crime Information Computer system and "came back with a hit on Mr. Dorsett.
