The Hagerstown Historic District Commission offered no objections Thursday to city plans to replace seating at the City Park band shell. The commission reviewed the plans as a courtesy extended to it when work is done in a city park, said Stephen Bockmiller, city zoning administrator. The city plans to replace existing wooden benches at the park band shell with new pew-like seats that will be a mix of concrete and wood, he said. Seat backs and bottoms will be wooden slats on a concrete base, according to city documents.

Permanent seating at City Park band shell discussed The city of Hagerstown is considering installing permanent seating at the Peter Buys Band Shell at City Park. City Engineer Rodney Tissue presented initial plans Tuesday to the Hagerstown City Council, saying a permanent seating option at the band shell would be a nice addition to the park. “Basically, they would be a series of concrete bands with wooden benches sitting on top of them,” he said. “This would hold maybe 200 patrons of the band shell.” The green wooden benches there now have the capacity for about 300 to 400 people, Tissue said.
