HAGERSTOWN -- Sunday's performance by the Hagerstown Municipal Band was an extension of the Independence Day celebration, but it also took some attendees back in time. The band's annual July Fourth concert at the Peter Buys Band Shell in City Park Sunday night featured patriotic songs, including military marches, to get everyone in the holiday mood. Some of the people in attendance said the show was like living in the 1950s. "It's like being in a movie setting," said one woman in attendance.

"Marty" Snook Memorial Park in Halfway. The Halfway Lions Club will be selling chicken. The Midnighters from South Hagerstown High School and the Commanders from Williamsport High School will perform Saturday, along with the magic of Michael T. Sunday's lineup will include the magic of Michael T and a performance by Take Two. Events are planned Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Yard sale Concordia Lutheran Church, at 17906 Garden Lane, will host a yard sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items for sale include furniture, children's toys, household and bedding items, holiday decorations and books.

Barge Bash registration Barge entries are being accepted for the Hancock Barge Bash sponsored by the Hancock Arts Council, the Town of Hancock and the C&O Canal National Historical Park. The seventh annual event will launch Saturday, June 27, on the rewatered portion of the C&O Canal in Hancock. The event is centered at the Church Street parking lot of the Western Maryland Rail Trail. For this year's event, boats will be on display from 10 a.m. to noon, when barge entries will be placed in the canal.

WILLIAMSPORT -- Trivia and commitment to local music blended with a homecoming Sunday afternoon during the 11th anniversary concert by the Williamsport Community Band. More than 100 people turned out at Springfield Middle School's auditorium to hear musicians including Patrick J. White, a 1989 graduate of Williamsport High School. White has been a member of the Hazel River Band, a bluegrass group, and is currently with the U.S. Navy's Country Current, a country and bluegrass band.
