The annual report of the Quincy United Brethren Orphanage and Home in Quincy, Pa., in 1948 noted that the bakery "furnished for consumption in the Orphanage and Home departments: 30,080 loaves of bread. In addition, this department furnished for use in the home 380 large sheet cakes, 2,340 dozen cookies, buns and doughnuts, 224 sheets of apple and peach potpie, 265 large pies, 165 pounds fruit cake, 1,500 dozen rolls and 38 barrels of flour for kitchen and home use. The Washington County liquor board has issued a license to a new business in Hancock to sell alcohol. During a hearing in Hagerstown Wednesday, the Board of License Commissioners for Washington County granted a license to the Blue Goose Fruit Market & Bakery at 557 E. Main St. in Hancock, to sell beer and wine. Blue Goose owner Penny Pittman said she intends to use the license to sell only wines from local wineries. Pittman said the business, which sells fruits, gourmet foods and baked goods, opened Nov. 21. - Dan Dearth

T. Austin Jennings, 99, of Williamsport, Md., went to be with his Lord and Savior on Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012, at Williamsport Retirement Village at Twin Oaks. Born Nov. 12, 1912, in Brownsville, Md., he was the son of the late George S. and Ethel S. (Wastler) Jennings. His wife, Mildred V. (Davis) Jennings, preceded him in death on Dec. 18, 2006. He was a 1932 graduate of Boonsboro (Md.) High School. Austin was a member of Emmanuel United Methodist Church in Hagerstown for more than 50 years, where he was a member of the choir, served on the board of trustees and was treasurer of the Meridian Bible Class.

Bring a lawn chair and join church members for an evening of fun and food. Celebration of weddings St. John’s United Church of Christ in Clear Spring will hold a celebration of weddings Sunday, June 26. The celebration will honor anyone married at St. John’s. The church is looking forward to having folks join them for worship that day as well as for a special program.

VALDOSTA, Ga. - It took R&R Trim two tries, but it got it right for a third time. R&R Trim bounced back in the second game of the championship final to score a 25-8 victory over Deluxe Bakery of Trenton, N.J., to win the ASA Class B national championship on Sunday. It was R&R Trim's third national title in seven years. R&R advanced through the tournament field undefeated through seven games until it reached the finals. Deluxe Bakery, the losers' bracket champions, knocked off the Hagerstown team 30-26 to force the winner-take-all game.
