Two Berkeley County, W.Va., teenagers will hold their third annual "Kids Making a Difference" bake sale Aug. 12 and 13 to benefit Hospice of the Panhandle's special needs fund. The bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at Wal-Mart at Martinsburg Mall. Lauren Taylor and Melanie Springer have held two prior bake sales at a different location. Baked goods offered will include cookies, cakes, pies, breads, muffins, fudge and potato candy, with all proceeds benefiting Hospice of the Panhandle.

Democratic Central Committee to meet The Washington County Democratic Central Committee will meet Monday, Nov. 20, at 6:30 p.m. at Democratic Headquarters at 245 N. Potomac St. in Hagerstown. All interested Democrats are encouraged to attend. Dickens Fair slated for Saturday at church Otterbein United Methodist Church, on the corner of Franklin and Locust streets in Hagerstown, will host its Dickens Fair on Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Handmade crafts and holiday items, baked goods, used treasures and gifts especially for children to buy will be available.

WAYNESBORO, Pa. -Area residents can find treasures by shopping at Renfrew Institute's third annual recycle/reuse Earth Day yard sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 19, on the grounds of Renfrew Park, 1010 E. Main St. The yard sale will be held during Renfrew's Earth Celebration Day and Festival of Art. Yard sale spaces will be available for $15 per space, $25 for double spaces, and $30 for triple spaces. Each space accommodates an 8-foot table or two card tables. Hot dogs, beverages, baked goods and other food will be sold.

The Grace Academy Missions Team held an Easter Outreach for the community on March 15 at the academy. The Missions Team did face painting, had an Easter egg hunt, carnival games and a puppet show by The Hagers-town Bible Church's puppet ministry. In addition, Sunshine the Clown put on a show and made balloon animals and hats for the children. The Missions Team served ice cream donated by Breyers Good Humor, baked goods donated by Sanders Cookie Jar bakery and drinks donated by McDonald's restaurant.

KEARNEYSVILLE, W.Va. -The garden committee of Peter Burr Farm will hold an open garden day from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 21. Besides opening the garden gate to its 18th-century-style kitchen garden, there will be lectures, a "snip and sniff" guided tour of the garden, and herbal refreshments. Herbal and other baked goods, garden cookbooks, surplus plants from the farm and members' gardens will be sold. The farm is off Charles Town Pike (old W.Va. 9), at the end of East Burr Drive.

Washington County Hospital will kick off its farmers market at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday. The market will run from 10:30 to 2 p.m. every Tuesday until Labor Day. The market will be indoors on the basement level of the hospital in the hallways outside of the cafeteria. Various vendors will be on hand with fresh produce, baked goods, and flowers. On May 22, Mildred Shifflet celebrated her 100th birthday. The former longtime Smithsburg resident now lives in Wilmington, Ill. She is best known for the meals she made and the baked goods she shared with her family, neighbors and friends. Four Smithsburg residents traveled to Wilmington to help her celebrate her special day, including great-nephew Jerry Miller and nieces Martha Coover, Irene Dunkin and Mary Miller. Also on hand for the party was Mrs. Shifflet's son, Jim, who she lived with before going to a nursing home.

St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church in Halfway is holding its annual Christmas Bazaar and Bake Sale on Nov. 8-10. The church is at the corner of Virginia Avenue and Halfway Boulevard. The event will feature handmade Christmas hard candy, a silent auction table, a white elephant table, baked goods, decorations, gifts, wreaths, and baby items. Sandwiches, soups, desserts and drinks will be available daily. Five items will be raffled, including a decorated tree, a nativity, a Christmas floral arrangement, a hand-painted folk art piece and a handmade quilt.
