Doors open at 5 p.m. with all-you-can-eat crabs served between 6 and 9 p.m. The menu also includes chicken, corn on the cob, coleslaw, baked beans, cold draft and sodas. Dec. 19 - Dec. 25 The Washington County Commission on Aging offers noon lunches to anyone 60 years and older at seven locations - Hancock, Smithsburg, Keedysville, Williamsport and three in Hagerstown. A two-day reservation notice is required and a donation is asked per meal. For information, call 301-790-0275. Weekly menu Wednesday - Roast turkey, whipped potatoes and gravy, sauerkraut, peas, stuffing ball, cranberry sauce, frozen treat and milk. Thursday - Baked macaroni and cheese, stewed tomatoes, garden salad with chickpeas, peaches, muffin or biscuit, and milk.

SMITHSBURG - The Smithsburg Fire Co.'s $2,500 bonanza will be today. Doors will open at 5 p.m., and the meal will be served at 6 p.m. The menu includes pit beef, baked beans, coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, desserts and beverages. Potomac St. in Hagerstown, will host a cabin fever picnic Saturday, Jan. 28, from noon to 4 p.m. It will include bingo, beanbag toss, miniature golf, spoon races, a sing-along, door prizes and other activities. The menu includes burgers, hot dogs, potato salad, macaroni salad, baked beans, chips, beverage and a sundae bar. Tickets cost $8 for adults and $4 for those ages 4 to 12. Those younger than 4 will be admitted free. The public is invited.

CLEAR SPRING - A ham and chicken feed will be held Friday, Aug. 19, at the Clear Spring American Legion picnic grounds. The doors open at 6 p.m. Tickets cost $12 each or two for $20. They are available in advance at the Legion bar or by calling Sharon at 301-842-3347. Each meal includes ham, marinated grilled chicken breast, potato salad, baked beans, rolls, fruit salad, sodas and an open bar. The event is sponsored by Clear Spring American Legion Unit No. 222 to benefit local children and youth projects and U.S. veterans.

Before you roast another hot dog or build another s'more, consider a couple of alternatives to the same-old campsite fare. Summertime means camping with the family. So we asked a local chef and local Scouts to share family-friendly recipes that will appeal to the kids as well as Mom and Dad. They came up with recipes for fresh-baked bread and a twist on camp side classic, s'mores. Campfire bread Chef Steven R. Weiss has made moving sculptures of sugar on the fly. But for this recipe, Weiss came up with an adaptable, cost-effective and unlikely recipe for families headed to campsites - fresh-baked bread.

The "Krab and Karaoke Dance Party" will be Saturday, Aug. 29, from 4 to 10 p.m. at Hager Hall Conference and Event Center at 901 Dual Highway in Hagerstown. Tickets cost $45 and include all-you-can-eat food and drink. The menu includes crabs, fried chicken, corn on the cob, garden salad, coleslaw, baked beans, rolls, hush puppies, assorted desserts, tea, water, soda and draft beer. A cash bar will be available. National Night Out set for Tuesday, Aug. 4 The local observance of the 10th annual National Night Out celebration will be held Tuesday, Aug. 4, in Hancock's Widmeyer Park. This year, everyone can expect the usual family fun and a few extras. The K-9 demonstrations, child identity card processing, and fire and safety demonstrations will be supplemented with blood pressure screenings, water slides and a moon bounce. The municipal swimming pool will be open from 6:30 to 9 p.m. free of charge, and food will be available in the Lions Club Pavilion (in addition to burgers, hot dogs and soft drinks, there is usually fresh corn on the cob)
