What better way to kick off a $2.5 million capital campaign in an old-fashioned town like Greencastle than with a sweet, lemonade stand and bake sale? That’s what Greencastle-Antrim fifth-graders Olivia Singer and Lyza Martin thought when they decided to help raise money to support the school district’s track-and-field project. “We thought it would be good to help raise money for the track and field, because a lot of people really use them,” said Olivia, 10. “A lot of people do sports on them, and we thought it would be really nice to raise money for it so it could be a little bit nicer.” “Yeah, so whenever we get into high school, we’ll have nice tracks and nice athletic fields to practice on,” said Lyza, 11. On Saturday, the girls hung their homemade signs by a table outside Sunnyway Food Market on U.S. 11 and sold individual bags of brownies, Fruity Pebbles treats and chocolate-covered pretzels for $1 each, and lemonade for 50 cents a glass.
