Paramount Brethren in Christ Church on Longmeadow Road will hold its spring yard and bake sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothing and household items, as well as homemade baked goods and ham sandwiches, will be sold. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the Mennonite Central Committee's Meat Canning Project, which prepares and ships more than a half-million cans with more than a million pounds of meat, mostly turkey, to feed hungry people around the world. Buffet planned for Mother's Day A Mother's Day buffet will be Sunday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

The Hagerstown Rescue Mission Ladies Auxiliary will hold an Easter bake sale Saturday from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the mission store. Items available for sale include candy, cakes, pies, pickled eggs and other items. All proceeds will be used to purchase items needed at the Rescue Mission. The store is at 125 N. Prospect St. in Hagerstown.

St. Joseph Catholic Church, on the corner of Halfway Boulevard and Virginia Avenue, will hold its annual yard and bake sale Friday, June 10, from 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Saturday, June 11, from 7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday is half-price day. Homemade candies and baked goods will be sold. Sandwiches and drinks will be available both days. The event will be held rain or shine in the parish center building behind the church. A bake sale will be held Saturday at Burke Street School in Martinsburg to benefit Isabella Neel and Kali Basler, two girls who have been hospitalized since they were burned last month in a house fire. The bake sale is set to begin at noon, and contributions are welcome, according to Isabella's aunt, Karen Hess Laisure. Isabella, 12, and Kali, 13, are still being treated at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, according to Laisure, who said her niece remains in the hospital's intensive-care unit.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - Staff at the Franklin County Career and Technology Center will host an employee yard/bake sale on Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. The sale will be at the "Teens & Greens" parking lot at 3015 Molly Pitcher Highway in Chambersburg, near Nitterhouse Concrete. All sale items have been donated by the FCCTC staff. Proceeds from the sale will benefit events at the school, including Field Day activities.

Two Berkeley County, W.Va., teenagers will hold their third annual "Kids Making a Difference" bake sale Aug. 12 and 13 to benefit Hospice of the Panhandle's special needs fund. The bake sale will be held from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. both days at Wal-Mart at Martinsburg Mall. Lauren Taylor and Melanie Springer have held two prior bake sales at a different location. Baked goods offered will include cookies, cakes, pies, breads, muffins, fudge and potato candy, with all proceeds benefiting Hospice of the Panhandle.

An array of yard sale items, along with soups and sandwiches, cold drinks and baked goods will be available for purchase. BOONSBORO - Friends for a New Boonsboro Library is sponsoring a Book 'n' Bake Sale Saturday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Boonsboro's Shafer Park during the annual fishing derby. There will be new and used books, audio books, videos, CDs, DVDs and children's software, as well as coffee and baked goods. There also will be Boonsboro Library cookbooks, tote bags and a Longaberger basket raffle. All proceeds will benefit the New Boonsboro Library Building Fund. Friends for a New Boonsboro Library is in the process of raising $1.2 million for a new facility.

bonnieb@herald-mail.com WAYNESBORO, Pa. - While Shawn Fogle of Waynesboro receives therapy to help him recover from a serious auto accident, his family is aiding his rehabilitation by raising money for his expenses. Fogle's cousins, Dawn Albaugh of Waynesboro and Donna Neiderer of Taneytown, Md., held a bake sale at the Waynesboro Kmart Saturday to raise funds to assist the Fogle family with co-pays, transportation and purchasing COBRA insurance, Albaugh said. A previous bake sale raised $1,100.

Christ Lutheran Church will hold its annual yard and bake sale Friday, Aug. 14, starting at 8 a.m., and Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Along with the yard and bake sale, the Chewsville Lions Club will be selling country ham sandwiches. Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg welcomed Bishop Ralph Dunkin of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to its worship service April 21. Bishop Dunkin joined Pastor Karen Erskine Valentine and the congregation of Holy Trinity on the front steps of the church following a reception of new members into the congregation.   Sharpsburg Library to show 'Lincoln' The Sharpsburg Library will show the Steven Spielberg Academy Award nominee movie “Lincoln” Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The film is rated PG-13.

Ward to talk about finding coupons for sales A coupon class with Jennifer Ward, “The Nifty-Thrifty Lady” blogger, will be held Tuesday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sharpsburg Library. She will show participants how to find and use coupons to save on their monthly shopping bill.   Fire company to hold basket bingo Potomac Valley Fire Co. will hold a basket bingo Saturday at 1 p.m. at the fire hall in Dargan, seven miles south of Sharpsburg on Harpers Ferry Road.

Washington Square United Methodist Church will hold its pork and sauerkraut dinner Saturday, April 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. The menu also includes mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, bread, dessert and drinks. Tickets cost $8 for adults, $3.50 for those ages 6 to 10 and $2 for those ages 3 to 5. It will be eat in or carry out. Antietam Unit 236, Sharpsburg American Legion Auxiliary President Ava Gift, Chaplain Darlene Hoffman, members Venetta Potts and Linda May presented a Blue Star Service Banner to Kathy Jones at Sharpsburg Bible Church March 16. Kathy's son, Pfc. Blake Poffenberger, is serving with the Marines at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in motor transport training.  He graduated from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa., in 2012. Blake comes from a military family. He is the son of Randy Poffenberger, a Marine veteran.

The cost of the dinner is by donation.

The 36th annual C&O Canal Days celebration is this week, from Thursday through Sunday. There will be activities on the streets of Williamsport, Byron Memorial Park, Springfield Farm Barn, the Town Museum and the canal. Opening ceremonies begin 4 p.m. Thursday at the band shell, honoring the employees and families of the former W.D. Byron Tannery. There will be a memorial service honoring the late Maurice Snyder, town historian, and a concert by the Williamsport Community Band. The Williamsport Memorial Library's annual book sale will take place in the basement of the library on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The Lions Club's annual ox roast begins at 5 p.m. Friday at The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 picnic grounds.
