Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Sharpsburg welcomed Bishop Ralph Dunkin of the West Virginia-Western Maryland Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to its worship service April 21. Bishop Dunkin joined Pastor Karen Erskine Valentine and the congregation of Holy Trinity on the front steps of the church following a reception of new members into the congregation. Sharpsburg Library to show 'Lincoln' The Sharpsburg Library will show the Steven Spielberg Academy Award nominee movie “Lincoln” Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. The film is rated PG-13.

Paramount Brethren in Christ Church on Longmeadow Road will hold its spring yard and bake sale Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Clothing and household items, as well as homemade baked goods and ham sandwiches, will be sold. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the Mennonite Central Committee's Meat Canning Project, which prepares and ships more than a half-million cans with more than a million pounds of meat, mostly turkey, to feed hungry people around the world. Buffet planned for Mother's Day A Mother's Day buffet will be Sunday, May 12, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Morris Frock Post 42 American Legion on Northern Avenue in Hagerstown.

Ward to talk about finding coupons for sales A coupon class with Jennifer Ward, “The Nifty-Thrifty Lady” blogger, will be held Tuesday, April 23, at 6:30 p.m. at the Sharpsburg Library. She will show participants how to find and use coupons to save on their monthly shopping bill. Fire company to hold basket bingo Potomac Valley Fire Co. will hold a basket bingo Saturday at 1 p.m. at the fire hall in Dargan, seven miles south of Sharpsburg on Harpers Ferry Road.

Washington Square United Methodist Church will hold its pork and sauerkraut dinner Saturday, April 13, from 3 to 6 p.m. The menu also includes mashed potatoes, green beans, applesauce, bread, dessert and drinks. Antietam Unit 236, Sharpsburg American Legion Auxiliary President Ava Gift, Chaplain Darlene Hoffman, members Venetta Potts and Linda May presented a Blue Star Service Banner to Kathy Jones at Sharpsburg Bible Church March 16. Kathy's son, Pfc. Blake Poffenberger, is serving with the Marines at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo., in motor transport training. He graduated from James Buchanan High School in Mercersburg, Pa., in 2012. Blake comes from a military family. He is the son of Randy Poffenberger, a Marine veteran.

The 36th annual C&O Canal Days celebration is this week, from Thursday through Sunday. There will be activities on the streets of Williamsport, Byron Memorial Park, Springfield Farm Barn, the Town Museum and the canal. Opening ceremonies begin 4 p.m. Thursday at the band shell, honoring the employees and families of the former W.D. Byron Tannery. There will be a memorial service honoring the late Maurice Snyder, town historian, and a concert by the Williamsport Community Band. The Williamsport Memorial Library's annual book sale will take place in the basement of the library on Friday and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The Lions Club's annual ox roast begins at 5 p.m. Friday at The Improved Order of Red Men Tribe 84 picnic grounds.
