MIDDLETOWN, Md. - A 16-year-old boy was charged with attempted murder Wednesday after another boy was assaulted with a razor-sharp, sickle-like martial arts weapon, according to the Frederick County Sheriff's Office. Jeffrey Mount was charged with several offenses after he allegedly attacked Robbie Glover with a weapon called a Kama at Glover's home on the 4800 block of Serpentine Road in Middletown, according to a sheriff's office release. Police said the attacker forced his way into Glover's residence around 5 p.m. Wednesday and assaulted him. Mount was arrested by sheriff's deputies shortly after the attack, police said.

A Hagerstown man was sentenced Thursday in Washington County Circuit Court to five years in prison for the stabbing attack on a man at the Adult Book Store on Jan. 24, according to court records. Robert Lee Fender, 36, of 227 Summit Ave., was given credit for 94 days he spent in jail following the incident at the store at 23 E. Washington St. Judge Frederick C. Wright III ordered Fender to pay $29,673.78 in restitution to his victim, Dennis Brown, 35, of Littlestown, Pa., according to court records.

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - A Berkeley County man was arrested early Friday after allegedly attacking his girlfriend with a machete, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Joel Valdez Bautista, 20, of 11 B Lexington Ave. in Falling Waters, W.Va., was charged with malicious wounding, destruction of property, obstructing an officer and two counts of domestic battery, according to court records. The victim told Berkeley County Sheriff's Department Deputy D. Clarke that Bautista kicked her in the back and cut her right hand and forearm with the machete, and also threatened to kill her 5-year-old son after he tried to stop the accused, according to the deputy's complaint.

andrews@herald-mail.com Chambersburg, Pa., police said today they were investigating whether a Hagerstown man charged Tuesday with sexually assaulting two teenagers in Montgomery County, Md., might have been involved in two similar attacks in Franklin County, Pa., last year. Pov N. Srun, 33, of the 800 block of West Washington Street, was charged Tuesday morning with one count of second-degree rape, one count of first-degree sex offense, one count of second-degree sex offense and five counts of third-degree sex offense, Montgomery County Police said in a news release.

By BRENDAN KIRBY Staff Writer An assault by an inmate sent a Washington County Detention Center officer to the hospital Sunday afternoon, Sheriff Charles F. Mades said. Deputy 1st Class Tony V. Davis, who has worked at the facility since 1984, was taken to Washington County Hospital after the 3 p.m. assault, Mades said. Late Sunday, a hospital official said Davis was still being evaluated in the emergency room. Mades said Sunday night he did not have full details of the assault.

By CLYDE FORD Staff Writer, Charles Town CHARLES TOWN, W.Va. - Robert Pratt figures the last time artillery fire was heard in Charles Town, W.Va., was 132 years ago. That will change this weekend as Pratt leads a group of Civil War re-enactors on an attack on Charles Town, complete with cavalry battles and artillery fire. Charles Town was attacked 18 times during the Civil War as armies laid siege to the town. On Saturday, the town will be under siege again, this time by Union and Confederate re-enactors and tourists who will watch the Civil War groups stage a battle in the center of town.

By CLYDE FORD Staff Writer, Charles Town RIPPON, W.Va. - A Berryville, Va., man was arrested Sunday by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department for allegedly attempting to run over his wife with his car at a house near Rippon, W.Va. Stanley Dwayne Byrne, 29, was being held Monday on $100,000 bond at the Eastern Regional Jail. He was charged with attempted first-degree murder, an offense that carries a possible sentence of one to five years in prison, according to court records.
