A fine-arts recital will be Saturday at 7 p.m. in the Clear Spring High School auditorium. Tickets cost $4 for adults and $2 for students. The recital will feature songs from the musicals “Phantom of the Opera,” “Les Miserables,”  “A Chorus Line” and others. The snow date will be Feb. 26. Dinner to benefit high school athletics A spaghetti supper to benefit Clear Spring athletics will be Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Clear Spring.

Proceeds from the Tim Rotz Variety Show on Friday at 7:30 p.m. at The Maryland Theatre will benefit Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. The show features young Hannah Richardson and student performers from Barbara Ingram School for the Arts. Tickets cost $15 and can be purchased at www.mdtheatre.org or by calling 301-790-3500.

The Hagerstown City Council Tuesday night approved several resolutions, including the redesignation of the city's Arts and Entertainment District that offers tax breaks for construction and job creation. A public hearing for the A&E District was held prior to the vote, with testimony in favor of the action from Mary Baykan of the Washington County Free Library and Tom Riford of the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau. “It has the library's whole-hearted support,” Baykan said.

"Blood Rose" by artist David Heatwole of Martinsburg, W.Va., was part of the Arts Collaborative Quad-State Member Show at Contemporary School for the Arts and Gallery Inc. at 40 W. Franklin St. in Hagerstown. Clare was selected by The Herald-Mail staff and has not been given any assurances that she will be selected for admittance to the school. Clare will audition Feb. 7.
