Two people charged in the New Year's Day death of a 3-year-old boy pleaded not guilty to multiple counts at their arraignment Tuesday in Berkeley County Circuit Court. James N. Mauldin, 20, and Jasmine K. Dawkins, 23, were indicted last month by a Berkeley County grand jury on one count of death of a child by parent, guardian and/or custodian by child abuse, two counts of gross child neglect creating substantial risk of serious bodily injury and one count of presentation of false information regarding a child's injuries in the death of Kaiwon Connelly, according to the indictment.

A former local band director who was charged earlier this month in a domestic dispute that ended in a three-vehicle crash near Philadelphia, will be arraigned July 5 on a stalking charge and other counts, according to a Pennsylvania court official. During a preliminary hearing Thursday, Magisterial District Judge Edward Kropp Sr. scheduled the arraignment after finding cause to uphold stalking, harassment, disorderly conduct and careless driving charges against John Edward Eckstine Jr., 54, a Montgomery County (Pa.)

A Martinsburg man accused of robbing a 7-Eleven store at gunpoint in Ranson, W.Va., was arraigned Friday on multiple charges after warrants executed Thursday for an ongoing homicide investigation led police to him. Xavier Juan Roberts, 23, of 25 Halsey Court was arraigned by Jefferson County Magistrate Mary Paul Rissler on charges of armed robbery, brandishing a deadly weapon and petit larceny, according to court documents. Roberts was being held in Eastern Regional Jail Friday on a $100,000 bond that Rissler set, according to jail and court records.

A 55-year-old man is accused of trying to bribe a West Virginia State Police trooper after allegedly failing field sobriety tests, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Paul Tilman Chaney was arraigned Saturday by Magistrate Jim Humphrey on two felony counts of bribery of a State Police trooper, driving under the influence second offense and driving revoked for DUI first offense, according to court records. Court records list Hagerstown and Falling Waters addresses for Chaney, who was detained by Trooper Z.S. Conner early Saturday in the Walmart parking lot in Spring Mills, according to court records.

A man who was shot in the chest and then shocked with a stun gun multiple times this month by Martinsburg police has been extradited back from Virginia, according to court and jail records. Douglas Charles Butler, 44, who was being treated at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, Va., was arraigned by Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on one count of attempted malicious wounding, according to court records and police. Butler was being held Thursday night at Eastern Regional Jail on a $15,000 bond, according to jail records.

The arraignment of a Washington County man indicted in Berkeley County in 1994 on 321 counts of sexual assault, pornography and related charges was postponed Thursday in Berkeley County Circuit Court. Randall Ray Waugh, 52, of Hagerstown, is accused of sexually assaulting a Bunker Hill, W.Va., boy dozens of times beginning in 1988, according to the indictment and Berkeley County Prosecuting Attorney Pamela Games-Neely. The victim, who turned 9 that year, was sexually assaulted in subsequent years before Waugh's indictment, according to court documents and Games-Neely.

An attorney is facing more charges after allegedly failing to provide legal services to clients who paid him to file various court actions in Berkeley County, according to court documents. Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on Tuesday arraigned Kenneth J. Ford, 37, of Baltimore on three counts of false pretenses. Ford previously was charged with three counts of false pretenses and one count of forgery of public record stemming from three other cases that surfaced last month, according to court documents.

A Morgan County man charged in the death of his pregnant girlfriend in December was arraigned Monday in Morgan County Magistrate Court, police said Tuesday. James T. Zell Jr., 23, of Tri Lake Park in southern Morgan County, was charged with first-degree murder and is being held without bond in Eastern Regional Jail Tuesday night, according to police and jail records. Sheriff's Chief Deputy Wade Shambaugh said Tuesday that Zell had fought extradition from Franklin County, Pa., where he was incarcerated in December after being arrested in Chambersburg, Pa., on a charge of driving under the influence.

Police seized five baggies of marijuana and $3,050 in cash in a traffic stop early Wednesday on Interstate 81 near Exit 12, according to Berkeley County Magistrate Court records. Michael Nicholas Calder of 36 Globe St., Martinsburg, and Delano A. Butler of Inkster, Mich., were arraigned by Berkeley County Magistrate Sandra L. Miller on one felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and one felony count of conspiracy, according to court records. Calder, 25, also was charged with driving under the influence, the court records said.
