The Smithsburg football team spent the entire first half Friday laying the foundation for a playoff win. That foundation quickly crumbled with one rush, one raised hand, one perfect bounce and a 25-yard sprint as Allegany scored 23 straight points on its way to a 30-20 win over the Leopards in a Maryland Class 1A West semifinal game. With the Leopards prepared to take a 20-14 lead into halftime, Allegany sent the house at Smithsburg punter Coby Blum and Garrett Livengood got his hand on the kick.

Erin Wilson had 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals to lead Allegany to a 42-30 victory over North Hagerstown in a girls basketball game Monday at North. "Erin Wilson is a three-year starter," Allegany coach Scott Bauer said. "She does a good job of orchestrating our offense and being a leader. We did a good job of playing defense. Our defense was the key to the win. " The Hubs (8-13) committed 26 turnovers and shot only 24 percent from the floor (11-for-46). "It is pretty hard to win when you shoot only 24 percent from the field and commit 26 turnovers," North Hagerstown coach Barry Brown said.

View all of the photos for purchase! CUMBERLAND, Md. -- Boonsboro's return game was clicking Saturday afternoon at Greenway Avenue Stadium. The problem: Allegany didn't give the Warriors many opportunities to use it. The Campers had trouble corralling Branden McLean on punt returns, so they remedied the situation by scoring on seven straight possessions on their way to a 46-6 win over the Warriors in the Maryland Class 1A West semifinals. "They're a good football team and we knew we were going to have to be awfully good today to beat them," Boonsboro coach Clayton Anders said.

bobp@herald-mail.com CUMBERLAND, Md. - When it was all over, the most efficient way to the Maryland Class 1A West championship wasn't by using a straight line. It was behind a dominant one. Allegany used its size and strength to overpower Smithsburg on both sides of the line of scrimmage as the Campers muscled their way to a 33-19 victory Saturday at Greenway Avenue Stadium. Allegany was quicker off the snap of the ball. It translated to 308 yards rushing on 45 attempts - a 6.8 yard per carry average - while the defense held Smithsburg to 239 yards of offense with 110 yards and all 19 Leopards points coming in the fourth quarter after the Campers took their first unit out of the game.
