bobp@herald-mail.com Hagerstown Community College coach Kenny Keyes had a checklist of what it would take for the Hawks to beat Allegany. But in the end, HCC managed to get only one check for the night ... and that was one into the boards. Allegany thoroughly dominated the rebounding battle and controlled the Hawks on nearly every other major point Friday as the Trojans methodically pounded out a 95-64 victory at the HCC athletic complex. "We had to go inside and take control of the game," Allegany coach Bob Kirk said.

bobp@herald-mail.com WILLIAMSPORT - The Williamsport girls basketball team attended a clinic on defense Tuesday. Unfortunately for the Wildcats, they were forced to participate as the guinea pigs. Allegany came into Williamsport and played hardcore man defense - the kind of defense that lets you know how a Siamese twin feels - as the Campers pressured the Wildcats flat for a 55-27 victory. "Allegany played defense like it's supposed to be played," said Williamsport coach Chris Malott.

koelble@herald-mail.com WILLIAMSPORT - Williamsport was clearly the better volleyball team in blue uniforms on Monday night. The two-time defending Maryland Class 1A state champions continued on their quest for another title, moving one step closer with a 25-4, 25-15, 25-9 thrashing of visiting Allegany in a West region quarterfinal. Having some fun on the floor with a loose appearance didn't deter the Wildcats (14-2) from putting forth a strong performance against the blue-clad Campers (3-13)

Hawks define the word blowout BY BILL STERNER / Staff Correspondent Buried somewhere deep beneath the avalanche of points Hagerstown Community College's women's basketball team scored in its 93-24 rout of Allegany on Friday, Marlys Palmer still believes her team is in offensive transition. "We have had our problems, especially scoring," the HCC coach said. "And even though we played better tonight, we have trouble shooting, getting psyched up and communicating sometimes.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - It could have been your classic David and Goliath story. Or maybe a Hoosiers II. Instead, it turned out as most everyone expected. Allegany unleashed the triple towers on Hancock Monday night, using its three 6-footers to take an 82-41 victory in the Class 1A West quarterfinals. The Campers, ranked second in the state and first in the region, used starters Teandra Smith and Tracey Little to dominate the first half, then spelled them with Ashley Rickelman after the break to control the lane and the scoreboard.

The Smithsburg football team spent the entire first half Friday laying the foundation for a playoff win. That foundation quickly crumbled with one rush, one raised hand, one perfect bounce and a 25-yard sprint as Allegany scored 23 straight points on its way to a 30-20 win over the Leopards in a Maryland Class 1A West semifinal game. With the Leopards prepared to take a 20-14 lead into halftime, Allegany sent the house at Smithsburg punter Coby Blum and Garrett Livengood got his hand on the kick.
