Allegany powers past HCC By BOB PARASILITI bobp@herald-mail.com The coaching profession is great for cliches. In basketball, one of the favorite is "offense wins games, defense wins league titles and rebounding wins championships. " On Sunday, Allegany College had 50 rebounds to Hagerstown Community College's 30 in the Region XX Division I championship game. 'Nuff said. The Trojans did another inside job on HCC, leaning on burly pivotman Terry Taylor for 27 points and 15 rebounds to outmuscle the Hawks in a 90-70 victory for the region title at the HCC athletic complex.

Allegany College's first 11 batters reached base to start the game against Hagerstown Community College, and all of them scored, putting the visiting Trojans well on their way to a 17-1 victory over the Hawks on Tuesday. The game was stopped after seven innings because of the 10-run rule. “It was a bad day,” HCC coach Scott Jennings said. “When your starting pitcher never gets a man out, it's going to be a long day. There were too many walks in the first inning. There were a couple of dropped balls in the field that should have been caught.
