Hager Chapter, International Association of Administrative Professionals, Hagerstown, awarded its 2011-12 scholarship to Jessica Spalding of Westernport, Md. Spalding will enter her fourth year at Allegany College of Maryland, where she is pursuing studies in the medical office assistant program. MVP Ian Grady led Allegany College to a 74-71 win over Chesapeake on Sunday at the HCC athletic complex to give the Trojans the NJCAA Region XX Division I title and a berth in the national tournament. Grady led an all-tournament team that included Hagerstown Community College's Marquis Waters, who scored 14 points in the semifinals on Saturday in the Hawks' loss to Allegany. Allegany's Harley Brooks, Chesapeake's Jimmy Mosser and Herbert King and Garrett's Hirvoje Mulhek rounded out the tournament team.

The Hager Chapter of the International Association of Administrative Professionals annually awards a $500 scholarship to a qualified applicant who is pursuing a career as an administrative professional. The scholarship is based on professional goals, academic achievement and financial need. MEN'S BASKETBALL LARGO, Md. -- Jeff Early had 16 points and T.J. Granger added 14 points to help Allegany College (24-5) defeat Hagerstown Community College 80-75 on Saturday in the semifinals of the Maryland JuCo Tournament at Prince George's Community College. Amaurys Fermin had 16 points and 11 assists to pace the Hawks (21-8), who had five players score in double figures. Jordan Brooks had 13 points, Raylin Brown had 12 points and three steals, Jeremy Myers had 12 points and five steals, and Raasan Young added 10 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

CUMBERLAND, Md. - This time, Hagerstown Junior College was forced to save its upset magic until next time. Allegany College defended its No. 1 ranking in junior college with a dominating 42-17 run in the middle of the game to turn back the Hawks Saturday with a 100-79 victory before an overflow crowd at Trojan Square Garden. The Trojans (29-1) won their 27th straight game while clinching the Maryland JuCo Conference regular-season title with the victory. Allegany and HJC could meet one last time next weekend in the Region XX finals.

Judith Ann (Newcomb) Faulkner, 70, of Hagerstown, died Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2011, at her home. Born April 19, 1941, in Keyser, W.Va., she was the daughter of the late Vincent and Viola (Coleman) Newcomb. Judith was a graduate of Keyser High School and went on to attend Allegany College of Maryland. She retired as an operating room technician at Sacred Heart Hospital in Cumberland, Md. She enjoyed reading books and caring for plants and animals. Judith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Perry Brooks Faulkner, who died in 1983.
