Donald McCammon wants to continue helping children, which is why the retired Washington County teacher and school administrator said he decided to file for county Orphans Court judge. McCammon, 63, of 12930 The Terrace, is a Republican Over the years, McCammon said he's always listened to his students, "even when they don't think I'm listening. I've really tried to help students, and this is another way to help. " After 36 years as a history teacher and administrator, McCammon retired from Washington County Public Schools in 2001.

Sharpsburg residents return from military duty in Iraq Randy Goetz, Justin Valentine and Daniel Hoffman returned home Memorial Day, May 29, after serving a year in Iraq with the 115th Infantry Regiment of the Maryland Army National Guard 29th Division. All three men attended Sharpsburg Elementary School and graduated from Boonsboro High School. Tolson's Chapel seeks internsfor renovation The Tolson's Chapel advisory board will hold an organizational meeting on Thursday, July 13, at 7 p.m. at Tolson's Chapel in Sharpsburg to develop and produce an eight- to 10-week internship program to teach five people basic restoration techniques while beginning the restoration of the historic chapel.

Almost nine years ago, at the suggestion of Publisher John League, I put out the call for readers to serve on a citizens advisory board for The Herald-Mail's editorial page. Since 1997, the group has met monthly to talk over issues for the editorial page and suggest topics for my personal columns, which appear on Thursdays and Sundays. The group has hashed over everything from the allowable length of letters to the editor to which syndicated columnists we should run, and covered a lot of ground in between.

FALLING WATERS, W.Va. - Falling Waters resident Noel C. Williams said he has learned to say no. An operations manager at Fujicolor Processing Inc., the 49-year-old father of two said it took some time, and an arms-length of affiliations and memberships to local organizations, but through it all, he does not regret his previous inability to decline invitations. "Some people say, 'Well, you don't know how to say no,'" he said, noting he attends about two meetings a week. "You find the time to do what you want to do. " Williams is president of the board of directors of the United Way of Washington County, and a member of the boards of Habitat for Humanity, San Mar Children's Home, Cedar Ridge Children's Home and the Washington County Economic Development Commission.

The advisory board for the Heart of the Civil War Heritage Area has announced a March 22 deadline for Fiscal Year 2007 Maryland Heritage Area Authority project grant applications. The noncapital Maryland Heritage Areas Authority provides grants of as much as $50,000 for planning, design, interpretation and programming. Eligible applicants include nonprofit organizations and local jurisdictions within the heritage area, which includes parts of Frederick, Carroll and Washington counties.

chambersburg@herald-mail.com CHAMBERSBURG, PA. - Having previously announced its intention to withdraw from the Hershey-Capital Region Visitors Bureau by the end of this year, the Franklin County Board of Commissioners Thursday passed resolutions to create its own tourist promotion agency. The board approved the creation of the Franklin County Visitors Bureau and designated it as the county's official tourist promotion agency. The county will now begin looking for 15 people to serve on the bureau's advisory board.

Name: Patty Question: I was wondering, once the hospital vacates its current location, what will happen to the building it currently houses? Will the burden be placed on the city to raze the property or will the hospital be responsible for razing it? If it is kept, what will be its use? I see it as a possible burden for the city and residents. Aleshire: It is currently in the hospital's financial plans for relocation to Robinwood to raze their existing site. The city will bear no part of this cost.

shappell@herald-mail.com Three Washington County commissioners and the Washington County Agricultural Advisory Board met informally for close to three hours Wednesday to discuss suggestions to improve the county's plans for rural rezoning and preserving farmland. Washington County Commissioner James F. Kercheval described the meeting as an informal brainstorming session to help the commissioners get ideas to refine the rural rezoning program, especially where it relates to farmland preservation.
