A Frederick, Md., man was pronounced dead at the scene of a crash between a tractor-trailer and a passenger car Friday afternoon on U.S. 340 east (Jefferson Pike) near Md. 67 (Rohrersville Road) in southern Washington County, according to a Maryland State Police news release. David James Forward, 56, of Frederick, was killed in the 5:55 p.m. crash, troopers said. Gregory Steven Givens, 31, of Yemassee, S.C., was taken to Frederick Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, troopers said.

One person was taken to the hospital following an accident involving a tractor-trailer and a car on Interstate 81 northbound just off the ramp from westbound I-70. The accident happened when the driver of a Toyota Corolla lost control of the car as it was moving off the ramp from westbound I-70 onto northbound I-81, according to Trooper Butler of the Maryland State Police. The Toyota crossed both lanes of I-81 and struck the guardrail in the median, and then was struck by a northbound tractor-trailer.

Two people were taken to Meritus Medical Center on Sunday afternoon after a pickup truck ended up under the trailer portion of a tractor-trailer on eastbound Interstate 68 near Sideling Hill, a Washington County 911 supervisor said. Both of the injured were in the pickup truck, the 911 supervisor said. Neither of the injured was believed to have life-threatening injuries, according to Washington County Emergency Services and Maryland State Police. The accident, west of Hancock, was reported at 4:16 p.m., the 911 supervisor said.

A Connecticut woman was taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown to be treated for moderate injuries that she suffered when the vehicle she was driving traveled off the roadway and struck a tree Monday morning on Flickerville Road in Brush Creek Township, Pennsylvania State Police said. Syeda S. Fatima, 30, of New London, Conn., was driving a 2002 Toyota Highlander on Flickerville Road near Fischer Road at about 6:45 a.m., when the vehicle traveled off the roadway, struck a tree and rolled onto its passenger side, according to a state police news release.

Southbound Interstate 81 at Exit 23 (U.S. 11) was closed for more than 10 hours Monday night and Tuesday morning after a tractor-trailer hauling fish wrecked and landed on its side Monday night, West Virginia State Police said. The crash was reported at 9:14 p.m. Monday at the on-ramp from U.S. 11 to southbound I-81 near the 23-mile marker, a Berkeley County Emergency Services spokeswoman said. Both southbound lanes had reopened by 8 a.m. Tuesday, state police said. Southbound traffic was being routed off I-81 at Exit 23 onto U.S. 11 and back onto the interstate at Exit 20 (Spring Mills)

A Virginia woman who was injured in a single-vehicle accident Saturday night on Interstate 81 near Hagerstown was listed in serious condition Monday morning at R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, a hospital spokeswoman said. Kaithlin Andrina Woodard, 18, of New Market, Va., was taken to Meritus Medical Center, then flown to Shock Trauma to be treated for injuries she suffered when the Mitsubishi Eclipse that she was driving traveled onto the grassy shoulder of the interstate and flipped, according to Maryland State Police.

Two people were taken to the hospital Wednesday morning after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Jefferson Boulevard and Itnyre Road, Trooper Jim Ardinger of the Maryland State Police said. The driver of a Jeep pulled out onto Jefferson Boulevard from Itnyre Road and collided with a Honda on the 22000 block of Jefferson Boulevard, Ardinger said. Both were taken to Meritus Medical Center east of Hagerstown, Ardinger said. They were the only occupants of the vehicles, he said.

Police believe a man working at a race horse farm off U.S. 340 may have been killed Monday morning when he was kicked in the head by a horse, according to Jefferson County Sheriff Robert E. “Bobby” Shirley. Shirley said the 25-year-old man taught horses how to walk at the farm and he was using a piece of equipment to train horses when the incident occurred. The man arrived at the farm before other workers, Shirley said. The other workers arrived about 7 a.m., and after not seeing the victim for a while, they searched around and found him, Shirley said.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 70 near Hancock have been reopened about 5:15 p.m. following a two-vehicle accident near the 1-mile marker, a Washington County Emergency Services supervisor said. A 2-year-old child was flown to Meritus Medical Center with “possibly serious” injuries, the supervisor said. Another person was checked for injuries, but refused further treatment, the supervisor said. The interstate in that area has three lanes, and two of them were open as of about 5:30 p.m., the supervisor said.

Hagerstown and the surrounding area woke up Tuesday to a white Christmas, much of which had melted by the evening as another storm was expected to bring a wintry mix, including ice, that would make travel treacherous Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. On Christmas Day, the National Weather Service upgraded a winter storm watch for the region to a winter storm advisory, as up to two-tenths of an inch of ice accumulation is expected in the Hagerstown area and along the Interstate 81 corridor through Wednesday night, meteorologist Jared Klein said.
