Northbound Interstate 81 at the Potomac River bridge was closed briefly Tuesday morning as the result of an accident on the bridge, a Washington County 911 dispatcher said. No one was hurt in the accident, which occurred at about 7 a.m., but a passenger vehicle did leak oil on to the bridge deck, which required clean-up by the Williamsport Volunteer Fire Co., the dispatcher said. One lane was reopened shortly after the crash occurred and both lanes were open by about 8 a.m., the dispatcher said.

Westbound Interstate 70 was shut down between Exit 24 and Interstate 81 due to a single-vehicle accident, a Washington County 911 dispatcher said. Occupants of the vehicle were being checked for minor injuries, the dispatcher said. The accident occurred about 3:35 p.m. in the westbound lanes, the dispatcher said. At 4:15, traffic was backed up past the exit for Md. 65, according to motorist. I-70 was reopened at 4:30 p.m.

There was a property damage incident Tuesday morning on Summit Avenue, a supervisor for Washington County Emergency Services reported. Police were dispatched to the scene around 10:50 a.m. No one was injured, police said. By 11:10 a.m., the scene had been cleared.

A motorcyclist was killed Saturday in a collision with another vehicle at the intersection of East Washington Street and Hollywood Drive, according to the Charles Town Police Department. The name of the motorcycle operator had not been released as of Saturday night and the accident still was under investigation, Sgt. James Knott said. The operator was pronounced dead at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Ranson, W.Va., Knott said. The accident occurred at 4:38 p.m., a Jefferson County 911 dispatcher said.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. -- Two men died early Saturday after the car in which they were riding went off the road and struck a tree off Sollenberger Road in Hamilton Township, Pa., according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release. The driver, Jason S. Lightner, 32, of Chambersburg, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 2:40 a.m. accident by Franklin County Coroner Jeffrey R. Conner. The passenger, Michael J. Jackson, 32, also of Chambersburg, was pronounced dead at Chambersburg Hospital shortly after the accident, according to a press release from Conner's office.

A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene of a one-vehicle crash Monday night in the 3900 block of Shepherdstown Road in Berkeley County. The man suffered from blunt-force trauma after being thrown from a BMW he was driving, Berkeley County Medical Examiner Donald Shirley said. Baker Heights Volunteer Fire Department joined West Virginia State Police at the site of the crash, which prompted officials to shut down the road. The accident was reported at 8:44 p.m., according to a Berkeley County 911 Central Dispatch supervisor.

Two people were injured in a wreck on Valley Mall Road Thursday afternoon, Deputy Matheny of the Washington County Sheriff's Department said. The accident happened in front of the Shoney's on Valley Mall Road. The accident happened when one car collided with another car turning onto the road, Matheny said. One person from each car was taken to Meritus Medical Center. The Washington County Sheriff's Department and the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company handled the incident.

BLUE RIDGE SUMMIT, Pa. -- A motorcycle rider was airifted from the scene of an accident Monday night at 13252 Old Route 16, Washington Township Police said in a news release. The accident was reported at 10:13 p.m., police said. A 2007 Suzuki motorcycle operated by Daniel Naugle, 22, of 11326 Old Route 16, Waynesboro, Pa., was traveling east when it missed a curve and the cycle fell onto its side and slid into a guardrail, police said. Naugle, who was not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured, police said.
