Salem Avenue students learn about leadership

On Wednesday, Sept. 4, Clayton Wilcox, superintendent of Washington County Public Schools, and Boyd Michael, deputy superintendent of schools, visited Salem Avenue Elementary School second-grade classrooms to discuss their leadership positions and the traits that they feel are important to have to be good leaders and good citizens.

During the presentations, they discussed character traits and shared personal experiences about their leadership roles in our community.

Both Wilcox and Michael said the favorite part of their jobs is visiting schools and having the opportunity to talk with students.

Wilcox ended his interview with some important advice, saying that the students are already leaders. Doing their best at being a line leader or helping their teacher is just the start of being an effective leader. He told them that practicing math facts and reading for 15 extra minutes every night will make them the best students they can be. He advised them to practice and reach for their dreams if they want to be the best.
