David Lester Carroll, 87, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013, at his home.

Born Sunday, Aug. 29, 1926, in Hagerstown, he was the son of the late George Carroll and the late Malissa (Snyder) Carroll.

He attended Hagerstown High School. He retired from M.P. Moller after 41 years. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He was a member at Grace United Methodist Church, the Elks Lodge 378, American Legion Post 211 and Woodmen of the World.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mary Catherine “Polly” Carroll; sons, Jack Cushwa, Jerry Carroll and George Carroll, and their spouses, all of Hagerstown; six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.


He was preceded in death by five sisters and three brothers.

Services will be held Thursday, Sept. 12, 2013, at 11  a.m. at the Douglas A. Fiery Funeral Home, 1331 Eastern Blvd. Hagerstown, with Pastor William Crowe officiating.

Family will receive friends at the funeral home, Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Interment will be at the Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown, Md. 21742.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of Washington County, 747 Northern Ave. Hagerstown, MD 21742.
