Anna Jean Koontz, 80, of Hagerstown, Md., died Monday, Sept. 9, 2013, at Meritus Medical Center.

Born Nov. 17, 1932, in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Ivan L. and Anna M. Dotter Showe.
Anna was a telephone operator at the Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co. for seven years, employed with Sears in the advertising department for 15 years, and was also secretary for the family business, Koontz Plastering and Drywall.

She was a former member at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Clarence Koontz Sr.; two sons, Pastor John Clarence Koontz Jr. of Pinesburg, Md., and David Leslie Koontz and wife, Chris, of Hagerstown; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Ruth Koontz, and three brothers, Charles Showe, Elwood Showe and Harold Showe.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd., Hagerstown. The Rev. Sean Coffey will officiate. Burial will be in Cedar Lawn Memorial Park.


The family will receive friends Thursday one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
